    hi Lusignan :hello:

    don't say I didn't warn you........

Banging my head against brickwalls is an underrated hobby - it's less painful than reading this kind of thread anyway! I've done my best to help, but in one ear and out the other unfortunately. Now I'm just passing time while it amuses me.

  • How do you know how good the other people on your modules are at english? Have you read their essays? Or are you going by what they say out loud? Because a lot of people can speak better than they can write.

I did have some medication and that improved things. I have been okay for a while but I still get this feeling of it all being out of control fom time to time.

Clearly it's not just 'from time to time' if you've been having these kind of threads since last summer! Get back to your doctor - you owe it to yourself. Of course, that would involve personal effort and responsibility, and no medication is going to kick in in time for your Finals.

i'm sorry studentphil but I think you are spending too much time on here and not enough on your studies. I'm not meaning to be offensive but you seem to post an awful lot. Get to your student services and see if you can get some support. Also do you have any "real friends" that you can talk to about your problems, someone that actually knows you and can comment on your situation?

You have an average of 44 posts a day!!! just think of the extra study you could do in that time!

If only it was that easy, studying just drives me into the ground with upset as I just can not do it and I have no success at it. And after day after day of zero reward and upset it becomes harder and harder to increase the amount I do.

I do try to aim for a couple of hours a day in studying and more than that drives me in deep upset and feelings of failure.

  • If you can't study because of lack of confidence, you should have told someone that. They'd have sent you straight to a counsellor. I'm telling you now, go and see a counsellor.

Given that lots of people seem to do so much better than me marks wise and can understand the readings in class. I think that I have a fault in me that others on the course dont have.

Okay, Phil - have it your way. Quite why you've put yourself through 3 years of torture when you're not suited to it is really beyond me, but it's been your choice. You'd've been better off leaving school and getting a job.

    so do i!!!!
  • I seem so underdeveloped in my English skills compared to everyone on my modules. I can understand the content to an acceptable standard but I just am not suited to the learning methods of the sybject as it depends so much on English abilities.

So how come you didn't drop out about 2 years ago? In fact, if your grades have been consistently low due to your not being suited to the subject, how come you didn't get dropped by the uni? There's too many things that just don't make sense here.

It seems to me that you want a first without actually putting in the level of effort required for the top grade.

Someone else mentioned you post an average of 44 posts a day on here - I wonder what your lecturers would make of that...

Whatever, I don't care anymore - you are very frustrating Phil because you don't listen or tell the whole story. Once a victim, always a victim.
  • Yes, you do have a fault others don't - you won't persist. You give up too easily. People that understand philosophy readings have usually read the piece a few times. A lot of students go to tutors with hard articles and discuss it with them. A lot of students buy study guides and read study guides online and discuss articles with friends, online and offline. That's why they do better than you.
