I would hate to have my prescription written by someone who didn't have a good knowledge of English (written or spoken) or have to travel on a train engineered by someone who doesn't know how to spell.
Reminds me of Spinal Tap and the design for Stonehenge....think Nigel wrote 18" instead of 18' for the size of the pillars....well as in all good comedies you can guess what happened.....
now let me see....did the doc prescribe 15ml or 1.5ml....see what I mean....
just out of curiosity Phil, what and where are you studying....I take it from your name you are a student?
sorry to disapoint you but some of the greatest minds in the world that are responsible for some of the worlds best inventions have been dyslexic. In fact i know many medical students that are dyslexic!
So i guess you should become a hermit and not leave your house!0 -

Well that says it all phil! I am doing a Dr of Philosophy!
It all about listening, reading, expanding your mind and thinking outside the box and for yourself. This thread shows you can't do any of that!0 -
I really don't think dyslexia is the issue here; accepting responsibility for one's life as an adult is.I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.0

Philosophy? You should have said earlier! I have ridiculously good english skills, and I study philosophy, and most of the time I don't understand it! I have to read things three times over sometimes before it even begins to make any sense. That's just what philosophy is like. I got 76 on one essay, 73 on another, and then 53 on another. I went to my tutors and discussed my difficulties with essay/exam performance. They said "go to study skills". Because almost all philosophy students (I can't speak for other subjects) have these problems, they can't say that every philosophy student is dyslexic. If you think you have dyslexia, you ask for a dyslexia test. You don't just wait for someone to offer one.
I have severe mental health problems - I have had them since I was a child. The symptoms have always been there, very clearly, I even went to the doctor with panic attacks four or five times and they said it was low blood sugar. I went to an educational psychologist because of my problems at school, presented a textbook case, and I was sent away untreated. I spent the next eighteen months researching mental illnesses in order to help myself. When I found what I had, I went to my doctor and said "I would like a referral to see a pscyhologist, I have an anxiety disorder and depression". And then I had to wait another two years to see the psychologist.
And now that I've been diagnosed officially, I am entitled to disability support. I had to sit my GCSEs and A levels with no allowances or support, as a result I got much lower grades than expected. There's nothing I can do about that now. So I forget it - yes, I've been badly disadvantaged for a long time, and yes, that has affected where I am today. But I'll only feel worse if I dwell on it, so I just carry on trying hard now.0 -
i'm sorry studentphil but I think you are spending too much time on here and not enough on your studies. I'm not meaning to be offensive but you seem to post an awful lot. Get to your student services and see if you can get some support. Also do you have any "real friends" that you can talk to about your problems, someone that actually knows you and can comment on your situation?
You have an average of 44 posts a day!!! just think of the extra study you could do in that time!0 -

And what has your doctor offered in response? Counselling or medication? You say this has been going on for at least 3 years so clearly you've got the medical profession involved, haven't you?I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.0 -
I seem so underdeveloped in my English skills compared to everyone on my modules. I can understand the content to an acceptable standard but I just am not suited to the learning methods of the sybject as it depends so much on English abilities.:beer:0

I did have some medication and that improved things. I have been okay for a while but I still get this feeling of it all being out of control fom time to time.:beer:0
