1 egg, mug, microwave 30 seconds
I assume you mean scrambled egg? Yes, a possibility, but one egg on its own is not going to be sufficient to keep me going the 6 hours till lunch!
Eggs.Boiled or scrambled, or fried or poached or whatever.
A poached or 'dry fried' egg on the crumpets I buy is well under two hundred calories and very filling.
I like eggs, but don’t think of them as a quick breakfast – maybe I need to rethink my idea of quick! What crumpets do you use – I have found everything bread based is huge in calories (and I’m a bit of a bread-aholic, when I’m not eating cheese!!)
    Beans on toast, wholemeal bread.
Also, toast with tinned tomatoes. Cheap can, cook them a bit then put in Tupperware in fridge, use a bit everyday. I like to have them warm, so re-heat in the microwave.
Thanks for the idea - unfortunately I am allergic to tomato so unable to eat beans :(
banana mashed on wholemeal toast, no butter or spread, wee sprinkle of cinnamon if you've got any.
Idea logged, bananas added to shopping list!
I have a banana milkshake with two scoops of protein powder for breakfast before work
I love banana milkshake, but hate washing the blender afterwards! I have never had protein powder – where do you buy it?
Could you put some fruit in with your porridge instead of the syrup? I've seen people put bananas in, or blue berries? Might give it some added sweetness
I *could* - and I *could* eat porridge without any sugar or anything, but I don’t *like* it like this so I know that I wouldn’t actually eat it! Seriously, I bought a luxury fruit porridge thing from Aldi a couple of months ago but it tasted awful hot, whether made with water or milk. Didn’t go to waste as I mixed with yogurt & left it overnight & ate it cold, that was nice but it was rather pricey to have all the time!
I make porridge with water and then stir in a yoghurt and then bung back in microwave for 15 seconds to take the chill off. Lovely and creamy.
Interesting, doesn’t the sourness of the yogurt detract from the taste though? (Assuming you use natural yogurt?)
My compromise is to have half milk half water, no sugar or syrup, a tablespoonful of raisins (mixed in with the milk/water as it's made in the microwave so they absorb it) and half a teaspoonful of cinnamon on top. Cinnamon is supposed to be terrifically good for you (antioxidants or something) and Aldi's is cheap at only 49p-ish. The raisins obviously do raise the calories but they also add one of the five-a-day.
I think I could maybe manage the half milk, half water, but I’m not convinced that porridge without syrup is porridge ;) I will try the raisin & cinnamon idea but I’m not convinced I will like it enough to eat it (I love both raisins & cinnamon, just not convinced I could cope with them in porridge!)
Has anyone tried Aldi's lookalike version which is under 90p?
Aldi Shreddies are quite nice :) slight difference to the branded ones but I’d happily eat them again!
Op, you could always swap to skimmed milk.
Yep, I am going to try this … or half milk, half water. I just can't tolerate skimmed milk on cereal but hopefully it will be ok in porridge. Skimmed milk added to shopping list!

I use a Mullerlight yoghurt which isn't sour. I also chop up a banana on the top which helps with the sweetness.

even with the golden syrup it is still a good breakfast choice 1 teaspoon of golden syrup has 24 calories so not really enough to do any great harm.

Cheap breakfasts, not a problem. Its a two step process.
Step one get yourself elected as an MP.
Step 2 roll up at the House of Commons resturant, and select from the menu.
    Cheaper than chips.
....and the joke, you are already paying for it!!

What a helpful reply! I can get cheaper and probably better in my local garage. Not healthy and not cheap though which is what the op was asking for.

This is true - but speaking as one who has the same weakness for golden syrup on porridge as the OP, a teaspoon just wouldn't do it for me! :o

Have you tried honey on your porridge instead of golden syrup? I'm not sure if it would make much difference on the calorie front. I like chopped apple and a swirl of honey in my porridge.

Also, don't buy skimmed milk just for porridge if you're not going to use it for anything else. You may as well buy a large carton of milk and dilute for porridge use, just use half milk, half water.

I also like fruit salad and yoghurt for breakfast. I know fruit salad is time consuming to make but you can make it in advance and it will last a few days in the fridge if you add a bit of water and lemon juice to prevent the fruit browning, just spoon out how much you want into a bowl each morning. Really cheap too if you use fruit that's on offer.

My breakfast du jour is, porridge (Jordans Chunky traditional) made with water topped with a small cup of blueberrys, california raisens and a sprinkling of cinnamon and splenda. and a good splash of 1% milk.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I add about 6 chopped dates to half a cup of jumbo oats and half a cup of skimmed milk and soak overnight. Next day add more milk and top with toasted seeds.
