1 egg, mug, microwave 30 secondsEggs.Boiled or scrambled, or fried or poached or whatever.
A poached or 'dry fried' egg on the crumpets I buy is well under two hundred calories and very filling.Beans on toast, wholemeal bread. Also, toast with tinned tomatoes. Cheap can, cook them a bit then put in Tupperware in fridge, use a bit everyday. I like to have them warm, so re-heat in the microwave.banana mashed on wholemeal toast, no butter or spread, wee sprinkle of cinnamon if you've got any.I have a banana milkshake with two scoops of protein powder for breakfast before workCould you put some fruit in with your porridge instead of the syrup? I've seen people put bananas in, or blue berries? Might give it some added sweetnessI make porridge with water and then stir in a yoghurt and then bung back in microwave for 15 seconds to take the chill off. Lovely and creamy. My compromise is to have half milk half water, no sugar or syrup, a tablespoonful of raisins (mixed in with the milk/water as it's made in the microwave so they absorb it) and half a teaspoonful of cinnamon on top. Cinnamon is supposed to be terrifically good for you (antioxidants or something) and Aldi's is cheap at only 49p-ish. The raisins obviously do raise the calories but they also add one of the five-a-day.I will try the raisin & cinnamon idea but I’m not convinced I will like it enough to eat it (I love both raisins & cinnamon, just not convinced I could cope with them in porridge!)
Has anyone tried Aldi's lookalike version which is under 90p?slight difference to the branded ones but I’d happily eat them again!
Op, you could always swap to skimmed milk.0 -
"Interesting, doesn’t the sourness of the yogurt detract from the taste though? (Assuming you use natural yogurt?)"
I use a Mullerlight yoghurt which isn't sour. I also chop up a banana on the top which helps with the sweetness.

even with the golden syrup it is still a good breakfast choice 1 teaspoon of golden syrup has 24 calories so not really enough to do any great harm.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

Cheap breakfasts, not a problem. Its a two step process.
Step one get yourself elected as an MP.
Step 2 roll up at the House of Commons resturant, and select from the menu.
Cheaper than chips.
....and the joke, you are already paying for it!!That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

This is true - but speaking as one who has the same weakness for golden syrup on porridge as the OP, a teaspoon just wouldn't do it for me!Life is mainly froth and bubble

Have you tried honey on your porridge instead of golden syrup? I'm not sure if it would make much difference on the calorie front. I like chopped apple and a swirl of honey in my porridge.
Also, don't buy skimmed milk just for porridge if you're not going to use it for anything else. You may as well buy a large carton of milk and dilute for porridge use, just use half milk, half water.
I also like fruit salad and yoghurt for breakfast. I know fruit salad is time consuming to make but you can make it in advance and it will last a few days in the fridge if you add a bit of water and lemon juice to prevent the fruit browning, just spoon out how much you want into a bowl each morning. Really cheap too if you use fruit that's on offer.0 -
My breakfast du jour is, porridge (Jordans Chunky traditional) made with water topped with a small cup of blueberrys, california raisens and a sprinkling of cinnamon and splenda. and a good splash of 1% milk. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I add about 6 chopped dates to half a cup of jumbo oats and half a cup of skimmed milk and soak overnight. Next day add more milk and top with toasted seeds.0
