I like plain bagel toasted, scrapping of philadelphia and 20g of smoked salmon. Not expensive if you buy in sale and cut into pieces and then freeze wrapped in cling film in individual portions in a freezer bag. I got this from weight watchers.
My sons like an English muffin toasted with butter on. Ham cut into pieces and fried like bacon, (they like the plastic Bernard Matthews turkey ham!). Fry two eggs and put ham on each muffin with fried egg on top and ketchup.Wendy0 -

I hate eating breakfast too - it's the only time of day I do NOT feel hungry, but now diabetic I have to eat it. I alternate between (brown, usually seeded, but sometimes just wholemeal) bread or toast with boiled egg (I have 3 a week, tho I think it's now been shown to be fine to have more), slices of thin-cut ham with lots of mustard, Marmite or low-fat cheese slices, grilled tomatoes on toast or sometimes a LOVELY bit of grilled back bacon. What I hate about eating first thing is all the sweet stuff my beloved family like to eat (muesli, porridge with fruit, Bran flakes, toast and marmelade) They accuse me of being Dutch or German because I like things like ham or cheese, but so what - lots of people on here just like me - hoorah ! I've got used to breakfast now...it can be done !
Oh yes, kippers sometimes too....yum.0 -
What a lot of ideas - many thanks to you all for replying. I will discuss all the ideas with dh later - I think eggs may win out along with beans or spaghetti on toast.
To geordie joe - I certainly do not make his breakfast (apart from his cup of tea) - I'm too busy sorting myself and the kids lunches out as well as looking after others that arrive anytime from 8am (I'm a registered childminder). My kids will also do their own cereals. I think it is just that he doesn't like cereal, and doesn't necessarily want toast and jam every day.0 -
Tomorrow we're having a berry brulee. Rasp and blackberries from the garden plus some blueberries, covered in a mixture of yogurt and cream (both need using up), sprinkled with muscavado sugar. I'm going to grill it;) Yes, it was intended for pudding tonight but we're not going to have time for it. I'm a bit of rebel at breakfast;)0

Cereal is a convenience food and the best thing about convenience foods is that they are... convenient. (Words of wisdom, there, I'm sure you'll agree...)
Think about convenient breakfast products: how about some sort of flapjack or granola bar (HM of course); American pancakes (dead easy - mix together 1 cup of plain flour, 1 tblsp sugar, 3 tsps of baking powder and half a tsp of salt and then add in 1 beaten egg, 3/4 cup milk and 2 tblsps oil; drop tablespoons of the mixture into a frying pan over a medium-high heat; turn over when bubbles appear on the top and cook underneath until browned - make a batch (or two) one evening while you're cooking the dinner and you can reheat them at your leisure for a few mins in the microwave - yummy with butter and/or maple syrup and bacon) and, of course, the ultimate convenience breakfast - the egg/bacon/sausage Mc Muffin - HM ones are just as easy as those you buy from a certain burger emporium and you can have them with or without plastic cheese.
The other nice, different thing for breakfast is muffins - the American kind. I have a plastic box labelled muffin mix from which you take two cups of mix; you add an egg and some oil and whatever ingredients you fancy and then bung in the oven. Again, these could be made the night before while you're cooking dinner to save heating up the oven specially and then blitzed in the microwave for a few seconds if you like them warm. They don't have to be sweet - you can have cheesy ones, ham ones, corn ones as well as the usual fruit. Banana bran muffins are yummy, for example.
Eggs are the ultimate convenience food - an omelette (ham, cheese, fines herbes, mushroom, plain) takes 40 seconds to make. I also love grilled tomatoes or mushrooms on toast; cheese on toast; scrambled eggs on toast; fried eggs on toast; eggy bread; greek yoghurt with sliced banana or other fruit or honey.
Got to go now as suddenly inexplicably hungry... :rotfl:0 -
I think this thread is marvellous - so many good ideas, including some great ones for puds - thanks thriftlady. I would just point out, very politely and quietly, largely for geordie joe's benefit that those clever but irritating people like doctors and dietitians suggest that it is a great deal healthier for us all to eat a HUGE breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a tiny evening meal. I find that hard but am trying because I plan to live a long time to see my grandchildren grow up. Roll on kippers, and bacon and eggs, and toast with nice things on it etc etc........:T0
