I back up daily. Once you get into the habit of it, it's not so bad. I dropped my Seagate hardrive and it had a repair cost of £600 so I recommend getting Toughdrives with rubber casing if like me you drop things0

I have time machine on my imac which is a god send! My imac's hard drive died and needed replacing... I then reinstalled via the hard drive and within minutes everthing was back up and nothing lost! hoorah!
I do forget to plug my laptop into it to back that up but as most of my stuff is taken from the imac to the laptop it doesn't really need it - I also have mobileme which has 20gb online so I can add things on there too!
I do burn major projects to CD so that I don't use up the external hard drive or imac memory up (I deal with hi-res photography and have recently been using video which can take up a huge amount of space) so I'm pretty good at backing up now!
I did have a pc before and I could never find the option of creating a start up disc... myfriend has the same issue and has vista... anyone know how to do this? Should be in the Start Menu under "System Recovery" or something similar.

I use the BaseCamp feature in Mac OS X, so automatically every hour (or whenever I have my external hard drive plugged in)0

I never use to back-up. Then one day, the inevitable occured - Broken hard drive, dead computer! NIGHTMARE. Since then, I have a lil black box I back up to everynight because it is only a couple of minutes than can spare you weeks/months/YEARS of lost work.
How many times should you back up? I think that depends on how much work you complete on your PC and then work out if I lost work from the past X days/weeks/months - have I got time to redo? I complete a lot of work on a daily basis on my 'puter, so backing up daily for me is a must as I never want to have to complete the same day over again!0 -
I am pleased with my backup regime on my mac.
Time Machine backups when it deems necessary, cloned hard drive once a month and a mic of Apple iDisk and the wonderful Dropbox.
I have symlinks to my iDisk folders in my dropbox folder which means that when I make a change to my iDisk, that change is reflected in Dropbox.
Not bombproof but will allow me to recover from most disasters.0 -
I keep important files on a memory stick, and put all work that I can't afford to lose into My Documents, and back that up to an external hard drive every week.0
