    Probably nothing more simple than what's included in Windows 7 (and Vista); are you not happy with Windows backup?;)
    Only got XP!
  • I got a seagate 250mb portable hard drive and back up new work on there daily. Good device, would be better though if I could password protect it

    Myself also (on another machine) - Windows Backup still available on that OS ;)
  • I backup my important files everytime I make any changes to them.

    However, I don't bother backing up anything else as it's all easily replaceable.
  • I back up my files and folders twice in a month as I am really lazy to do that.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
  • I do automatic backups using NH Backup (No Hands Backup - http://nhbackup.com/) - works perfectly and I don't need to remember to do it. I have a backup folder set on my computer, and that folder is linked to Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/) which syncs between on-line storage (with backups if files are changed/replaced) and my backup folder.

    So in brief:
    NH Backup does the backup automatically to a local folder.
    Dropbox syncs the local folder to its servers automatically.

    Note: The link I've provided to Dropbox is not a referral link, but if anyone does sign up to it using my referral link, we'll both get an extra 250mb of storage space on it. If anyone wants to do that, send me a private message and I'll provide the link - or provide your email address and I'll send you an invitation, with the same result. I hope that's allowed within the referrals rules!

    Dropbox only gives you 2Gb for free, then you pay $10 per month for 50Gb or $20 for 100Gb. And all your files are stored on the internet as well as the various PCs.

    I've been using Live Mesh from Microsoft (http://mesh.live.com) for a while now - it syncs folders between different computers and gives you 5Gb of online storage free, but also allows you to sync folders between computers without storing stuff on the internet. I sync what I'm working on at the moment onto Mesh online and other computers, and just sync the remainder between computers. So I have a backup of over 40Gb of our family photos stored on my SWMBO's laptop as well as the desktop, and they're automatically synced - anything I add to one is automatically copied to the other. Works for me, and it's free...

    I'm also using Carbonite (http://www.carbonite.com/) - I won a year's subscription in a competition 9 months ago. It seems to work well for me - it just works in the background backing up the files. You can pause it and set a schedule when it's not to run, but I just leave it to it's own devices. You can turn it on or off for certain files or folders. It even works out which files change more often and backs them up more frequently. A very handy feature is to quickly recover earlier versions of files if you've deleted or overwritten them by mistake :o (not that I'd ever do that!). Just right click on the file and click "Restore previous version". I'm seriously considering renewing my subscription as it does what I want, though I've never had to recover more than a few Gb. $55 per year for unlimited backup.

    Finally, I'm still using WinRescue Vista (http://superwin.com/rescueVista.htm) for backing up my registry and key files for day-to-day crashes (if that makes sense). I've been using it since Win98, and it's very handy. If I've had a crash or corruption, you can just go to the restore tab and it works a treat. I've only had to use it 4 or 5 times in 10 years, but it's been a life-saver.
