Well just joining in the discussion here. I'm with RBS. Went out for dinner last nighr and all seemed ok, card went through fine. About half an hour ago I just tried to purchse something for £5 online and was wondering why payment ket being refused. Apparently I hae zero money in my account and am £399 ovrdrawn!!! Thanks Nat West. Time to switch methnks . . . .

So I see the glitch is fixed so that means I am now part of hte backlog of customers that have been affected. How long will this go on I wonder . . . .
    disgraceful!

Can we as customers do anythng and will we get any compensation? My heart goes out to customers who have missed salaries and have families depending on them .

Debits are always processed before credits. All banks do this, so don't worry if it's showing direct debits going out with no wages - this will update and it doesn't mean nothing will go in.

Sorry this is completely wrong RBS/Natwest/Ulsterbank, process all incoming BACs first and then process outgoing debits.

With the exception of POS transactions which are dated the previous day even though they are not cleared onto the statement until the overnight run.

Thanks to KxMx for the giftcard idea, good one. Will have to get one for Tesco's and add £5 to it as & when I can over the next few months. Moving to England and expecting that benefits will take a while to get sorted. Going to try and save enough that we don't have to ask my parents to lend us money if it takes more than a couple of weeks for everything to be sorted. Have already had to use the points on my Boots vantage card to pay for nappies, only happened once though.

We're with RBS and everything seemed fine. I checked yesterday (Friday) and all was present and correct. Went to Tesco today to get the shopping and my card was refused  I got home, went online and was told I was £145 OVER my OD limit and the two payments that had previously been showing a going INTO the account last week have mysteriously disappeared.

I thought it was supposed to be FIXED today? My account only BROKE today. Thanks NatWest/RBS, great job

Wages eventually went into RBS account on Friday - 2 direct debits "might" have been paid. Used my card yesterday morning, then went to Tesco in the afternoon where is was declined. Checked my account online and my wages have disappeared and the last transaction date was the 19th, the money that was in the account on that date has also vanished!
When I phoned RBS they told me that it is EVERY customer who is affected, not just some as they would have you believe.
Be interesting to see if we get offered anything in the way of compensation - probably not though!
  • Nat west have provided an 0845 contact number. It should be an 0800 number for such a monumental !!!!-up. Still making money out of their beleaguered customers then.
