Ulster/RBS Bank problems

  • Those who have left, where did you go to ?

I'm eager to leave them, but I can't find a higher interest saving accounts in any of the usual banks / building societies.
  • I didn't visit any branches either as I thought the staff had enough customers to deal with without another one in the queue! There was no point in going into the branch as they weren't giving extra information that I wasn't hearing daily on the news channels and I just borrowed from family until it was all fixed. So because I chose not to queue in a branch adding extra pressure, then i'm disqualified for the £20 payout! ridiculous.

If all of their customers had visited their branches, they'd have been open 24/7 to deal with everyone. THey are an utter disgrace. I'll be voting with my feet after writing a strongly worded complaint to them

My brother was offered £250 eventually, and accepted this yesterday by the complaints department. He raised a complaint when the issue first happened and kept a log of who he spoke to on what date and time and what he was told.

Unfortunately what he was told most of the time on the phone involved language such as "should" "might" "possibly" etc when it came to charge refunds etc. He put this to the girl from the complaints team yesterday and was initially offered £100 but told them in no uncertain terms that he could walk into another bank, open a new account and get £100. Girl then offered £250 and he accepted.
    Regards, Robin.

I find that very hard to believe to be honest. What rate are you getting at the moment with the UB?
  • 2.34% (after tax) instant access. I can put it away for max 1 year if I do it within the month.

Post office do 2.6% for 1 year fix, may go there.

UB had the gall to email me today telling me how caring they are towards me over their financial disaster. Do they not realise they they are just heaping anger onto the insults.

I now know for certain that it was Indians who made the !!!!-up and compounded the situation by not following the correct procedures. RBS staff were briefed daily to tell anyone who asked whatever RBS story was for that day! Absolutely scandalous behaviour, staff were not allowed to tell the truth.

Plenty of better rates than that out there. UB are not going to be at the top of league tables. Non of the N.I. banks are.

you can get 3.25% on a 1 yr fix ISA.
3.6% regular savings (over 25K) 1 year fix.

    2.34% really is awful Mark.

Mark was it an Ulster Bank employee who told you this was a great rate and who "sold" the account to you?

It makes you wonder what else UB would have had to do to their customers to make them angry enough to leave...

Northern Ireland consumers - a bunch of sheep.
  • I had to pop into my local UB yesterday and for the first time in years there was no Friday queue. 3 cashiers on looking quite bored in fact. However, when I got called forward I was taken back by how dry and rude the cashier was. Surley, with the obvious mass exodus the least the staff could be is friendly and helpful.

My 2 accounts, one personal and one joint account were hugly affected by their IT blunder. I was getting married and unable to withdraw, get a balance or use my debit card at all.

Thank goodness I had an account with another bank and all my wedding expenses were able to be paid via them. In fact they offered me a free overdraft for peace of mind while the UB were out of action. Now that's customer care!
    On a mission!
