Ulster/RBS Bank problems

  • In my case I ended up having to take a day of work to run around paying bills in case (which could have been taken care of via the phone & internet)

3 hours in queues to get cash (and was made to feel like the Ulcer Bank (sic) was doing me a favour by letting me have some of my wages)

On top of that I wasted over an hour of my life trying to get a 99 pence per month Amazon Kindle subscription cleared up (I only have a UB debit card as a payment method)

Adding the lack of sleep this has caused in my family (both my working kids are with the UB) I figure that they owe me more than covering expenses incurred by their ineptitude

Have you heard the one about the RBS owned bank who didn't have working backups?

I'm not a person who is always looking something for nothing, but there was real trouble caused for people

There is no doubt that there will be reconciliations to some customer accounts that also need to take place over the coming days and weeks

Is a very worrying statement on their website - weeks???

Well I rang my car insurers yesterday to give the the bank details of my new Barclays account & informed them I'd make the payment due on 1st July when I get my card,as I cancelled the direct debit online & confirmed in branch around 23rd June & it's showing as cancelled on my online banking screen.
They told me I didn't need to as it's showing as it's been paid by direct debit on 1st July, but the's no debit from my account to reflect this at this time!
So over a month after this all started,it's still not right!

Goodbye Ulster Bank,it's been ..... expensive!

And according to the girl in Barclays who opened my account, they've had quite a lot of disgruntled Ulster customers opening accounts with them.

This seems to be appropriate to virtually all the alternatives - does anyone have ANY good opinions on other financial institutions we could switch to, or is it (dare I say it?) a case of "better the devil you know"?

I was lucky enough to miss the start of this mess as I was out of the country and my pay went into my account the day after I came home. The last week however has been a nightmare. I cancelled a Standing Order for £470 on 03/07 and again on 11/07 however it was paid out leaving me £400 overdrawn. I called into Branch on Monday and was told it should sort itself out overnight it didn't. Called in again on Tues a complaint form was completed and I was told that I should receive a phone call within 48hrs I didn't. I called in again today and was told that yes the Standing Order was cancelled and the money was ready to go back into my account but they couldn't tell me when that would be. I said that was not good enough I wanted a date and wasn't leaving until I had a definite answer. The response I got from the Manager and I quote "don't be ridiculous" so apparently it is ridiculous to look for your own money, she then threw a phone number at me to ring which I did while still there. After being on hold for 20 mins hung up. Made another call and got cut off. After another 2 phone calls I spoke to someone and all they can say they are expecting things to sort themselves out over the next few days but they don't actually know and promising me a phone call in the morning, won't hold my breath. Things are far from fixed at Ulster Bank and seems to be operating on a wing and a prayer. At least I had the sense to remove my money before this happened would rather have it in my possession than lost in cyberspace.
  • i paid off a small bill on my credit card during the start of the crisis, and they still havnt acknowledged that it has been paid and now they have charged me a late payment fee and interest. When i went in about this they said all payments will be made automatically but what they didnt say is if they are expecting me to pay it again and wait the "days and weeks" to get my money back.
If already paid off my card with my payment slip to proof it. i shouldnt have to do it again.
Does anyone know whats meant to happen with this?

I got hit with an overlimit fee and late payment fee as I couldn't pay it online they said it wil be refunded on the next bill.

Another week gone by and silence is deafening on the customer compensation front. Are they waiting for large numbers to leave before they compensate those that stay loyal?
