Latest from the Ulster bank;Customer Information
**NEW**
We expect that next week (commencing 9 July) will be the final week of any significant delays for Ulster Bank customers. There will be gradual, but significant and noticeable improvements throughout the remainder of this week and next.
Our Internet Banking and Smart Phone Apps are available to allow you to view your accounts, make transfers and pay bills. Please note you will only be able to make transfers and pay bills up to the stated balance which may not be up to date. As we update our systems there may be times when the service is temporarily unavailable, if this happens please try again later.
We know this continued disruption is unacceptable and we are doing all we can to help. We will continue to provide updates on our progress, for the latest information please visit Help
Please remember, we will never contact you and ask you to provide your full PIN and Password. If you are ever asked for these details, please contact us.
Thank you for your patience.0 -
Since 27th May 2008. Instant and free.

Yes, exactly.
You'll not really be in any worse of a position for something which is extremely unlikely to ever happen (although recent events show that it can indeed happen).
But I am mainly responding to those who are loyal to a bank merely because it had a branch close by. I am just suggesting there are ways to have your cake (local, handy access) and eat it (reliable bank account, with good offers and customer service).
Now how can that be bad?
Thanks for the info on FPS - didn't know it existed but charges-free transfers taking only 2 hours to reach the other account sounds pretty good. Short enough to be considered instant .. assuming both banks supported the system properly of course.
I still don't see that the hassle of operating two current accounts concurrently outweighs the hassle unless the one you use for the bulk of your transactions has a really superb online banking system compared to any competitors but certainly useful to have a second dormant account to use in emergencies.
I'd be more likely to transact all my business at a bank that had branches I could reach easily as not everything I would want to do is about simple account to account transactions.0 -

No, they are actually instant. The Faster Payments says that the funds will be transferred within two hours but generally speaking as soon as you send from one account then hit refresh on the other account the funds will be there.
Instant like an email is instant.0 -

Yes, FPS is working, no reason for new payments to be delayed.0 -
'Payments and Transfers' is down again.

But can you make any electronic payments?0

Does anyone know how the backlog of transactions is actually being applied to accounts? My Ulster Bank account is showing a few mixed up updates - mostly debit ones - from the week of 25 June -but pay due in on 21 June has still not appeared...one step forward and two steps back every day it would seem.
And just a rant - Paul Lewis just on BBC Breakfast - on to talk about Ulster Bank problem - what was the FIRST thing he talked about? ... a few RBS/Natwest personal loan payments being taken from accounts twice - some poor customer who is down a couple of hundred while we've had NO MONEY for weeks!! Northern Ireland customers at the back of the queue - again...0 -

What is the update on lodgements made to my account?
Lodgements of cash or cheques made over our branch counters from Wednesday 20 June are receipted but have yet to be credited to customer's accounts and will be credited as we clear the backlog.
Electronic payments are being received into accounts but they are delayed. If your salary, pension or welfare payment was due to be paid into your account before Thursday 21 June, this is now in your account balance. If you were due to receive your salary via an electronic payment between Thursday 21 and Friday 29 June these may not be in your account yet.0
