Ulster/RBS Bank problems

I think these days there's a risk with any and every bank. Just dunno what's around the corner. Who can you really trust?Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0

Account transactions only updated to 27th June - still one week behind. So still no inroads into the backlog. I fear they may make a little improvement this weekend and then use the 12th Bank Holidays and that weekend to do some proper catching up.
This is obviously going to cause major headaches and countless incorrect debits and credits for customers. Yippee! :mad:0 -

I disagree completely. We now live in the world of Faster Payments which work brilliantly. Barring IT disasters (lol) payments between institutions that support the scheme are usually instantaneous or, at worst, within two hours.
What does this mean? Well, it means you can use any bank you choose but still maintain convenience. For example, you may wish to bank with Santander but only have a First Trust branch locally. You can open accounts with both banks and use the local bank for deposits and then transfer your funds online to your preferred bank. You are effectively just using the facilities of your local bank for deposits and then your preferred bank for everything else.
You may suggest this is unfair on the poor wee banks?! If it was a normal, honest business then I would agree totally and would not do it. But sympathy for the banks? I don't think so.0 -

I'm talking about situations when you NEED to use a physical branch. Electronic banking is great but it is an extra thing to go wrong on top of the banks internal IT systems and some things just aren't possible online (depending on the functionality offered).
Having an actual branch close by to you can be a real boon, especially in emergencies, and is something I would consider when choosing what bank to handle my main current account. For savings, I'll just use whatever bank offers the best terms of course.0 -

Well if you NEED to use a physical branch then there will still be physical branches in a town near by. But for normal, day to day use any NEEDS of a local branch can be fulfilled by the bank that is local to you.0 -
A statement on Wednesday reads: "We now expect that next week (commencing 9 July) will be the final week of any significant delays for Ulster Bank customers.
"We expect gradual, but significant and noticeable improvements throughout the remainder of this week and next.
"It is our expectation that by the week of the 16 July the vast majority of customers will return to a normal service, barring any residual reconciliation required."0 -
