Surely if the defendent doesn't turn up but they have submitted some sort of defence letter (as in the case here), wouldn't the prosecution still at least have to show some evidence that an offence had been committed?0
-
OP there must be something more to this, did the letters you receive look official ? Was it printed on headed paper ?0

In conclusion, the OP might well have been fined £275 but I bet it's not for the misdemeanors quoted above.
Finally, after sixty-eight posts someone's penny has dropped.
I am surprised anyone was even taken in by the OP.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

So?
You don't need a licence to watch catchup programs or stuff on youtube, so why on earth would the sites have a warning about it?
That is definitely not the case and whoever you were talking to was lying through their teeth.
Or the OP is.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
That is what has happened to me. I use my PC for craft stuff and watching crafting demos on Youtube, I also watch DVDs using my PC, but I have paid for them, why do I need to pay the BBC again? The licence man lied on the form I saw he'd sent to the courts, he wrote on it that I watch TV online, I don't, I don't even have a TV card or whatever you call them and I said he could even check that with my service provider to see what I view online. He was very rude to me and demanded my date of birth and national insurance number. I'm really upset about it all.
If you signed then the scum have you because they falsify the forms afterwards.I had one knock on my door at 8pm ish a few weeks ago (I have a TV licence) & when I told him to !!!!!! off,he resorted to "OK,I'll just phone & get a search warrant"...Still waiting...:p
They always do this, think 30s Germany and you know what we're dealing with.
Anyway the OP wont get any help here, the BBC has its PR people here and other sites like this

You see it's not just here he shows up to defend the BBC at every single opportunity0 -
So what 'form' do these TVLA goons ask people to sign when they turn up on their doorstep??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Basic first day at college legal stuff !
2 parts:
To bring a prosecution and a private one at that, you need to know WHO you are prosecuting.
Part 2: someone has to agree to represent the human at court, this is know as a person, the name on you birth certificate is your person, it is basically your name but in BLOCK CAPITALS, or referred to historically as your straw man.
So without you giving them the name of a person to prosecute and the signing to agree to represent that person in court, to put it the short way, they are stuffed, unless you want a summons issued against "the fat bloke in the white vest who answered the door at number 31...
No name of a PERSON + No agreement to represent that person =No Private prosecution .
End of story.
Hence why ignoring and slamming the door works 100% of the time.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Personally I prefer to pay for services I use, but I guess that's just because I'm honest.Je suis Charlie.0 -
