I'm surprised that other banks haven't used some discretion. When I used to cashier we cashed against wages that didn't show based on account history.

Any charges incurred will be refunded, and I've been told this will be for non natwest customers as well

Well I would like to know where these 1000 branches are because the branch in our town isn't open so that was a wasted journey. The problem I have is that I had a DD go out yesterday for a Credit Card payment but MBNA say they haven't recieved it and although technically the card isn't due to be paid until Sunday, MBNA do not process payments after 5pm Friday until Monday by which time it will be late with the hassle that goes with that including losing a life of balance interest rate. I will be interested to see how natwest will sort that out for me.

"We will ensure that no customers will be out of pocket as a result of these issues. We can confirm that any fees and charges incurred by customers will be fully refunded. This includes charges levied by a third party; for example, if you were late paying a non-NatWest credit card or mortgage because your account wrongly showed there wasn't sufficient cash."

Though MBNA really should honour the life of balance deal anyway if you call and explain you tried to pay but Natwest messed it up.

I have made a few debit payments that have shown on my account so fingers crossed things seem to be moving forward….

For me the payment I made yesterday was showing as having left my account but the recipient has not recieved it and today it disappeared off my online statement completely so it doesn't seem to matter if it is showing as having left.

I got to my branch and managed to get some money out to last the week. I was so grateful to have cash in my hand! I am seriously considering changing banks or at least having an extra one at a different place with savings or something. That might be just a knee jerk reaction to the tresses of today though.

I will relax now and try to push all thoughts of December 2012 and the mayans predictions from my mind!

Changing banks may be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction (for all you know, HSBC could go down next weekend!) but it's definitely wise for everyone to have at least 1 extra bank account. It doesn't need to be a nationwide system failure to affect your account in the future, your account could be blocked, card lost etc.

My baby should not have to go without for a few days! How do you know all will be fine? Are you a doctor? Do you know my or my unborn babies medical state? Don't tell me what will be ok unless you are. Your statement is disgusting!

Bully for you being so perfect having abundanes of reserves in your cupboards! Aren't you just soo clever:( As I stated earlier this is the 3rd day now and I have used all my extras in the cupboard and freezer up. No I don't have any friends or family that can lend to me as those that I do have are also experiencing similar problems as me.

Some huge over reactions on this thread.

I know lots of people are angry but ranting on a forum isn't going to solve anything. We're all in the hands of the banks, it will all be sorted out eventually and i'm sure compensation will be paid where it's justified.

DH was paid today, but not showing in our account :(.

Good news - DH's pay has gone into our account and balance is correct. However, unable to transfer any money between accounts.
  • Well I went down to my local branch who stayed open until 7pm, they were absolutely fantastic and really helped me out - possibly as I ended up bursting into tears on them as i was so tired out from all the calls to the call centre throughout the day!

They gave me £300 cash and paid some bills for me via their computers. They also said they will personally walk down to Barclays the minute my wages hit my a/c (during working hours obviously) and pay the credit card bill as well to save me doing this (as I am going away on holiday and may not be able to pay it beforehand if a/c not up and running)! They also let my 3yr old son use their toilet and gave him a drink. They couldnt have treated me more nicely.

They explained that yesterday was worse than today in branch and that slowly the tech heads were fixing the fault but said they wouldnt like to be in the shoes of whoever caused the problem!

By the time I had got home my wages were showing in my a/c although I cannot pay bills or do transfers etc.

I have bought them a box of chocolates and a thank you card to take down tomorrow for being so good
