Hard as it is, try not to worry. The money IS there, it's just not showing so you haven't spent money you don't have. Same as my cash to pay the bill - it is there, but can't be accessed by the company collecting. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully a better one for all.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

The person I quoted specifically said because of this one issue they cannot give their children food today - i.e. they have money, just can't get to it. How on earth is having an emergency credit card for times like this remotely "not a solution"? You want them to starve?
And if a family with children lived with completely empty food cupboards and weren't capable of raising £3 then quite frankly, the parents are neglectful. With our current welfare system as it is, there is no excuse for handling your finances like that.
That's really a ridiculous answer. No, i said no such thing about 'they', credit cards for anybody are not a good idea unless you can pay off the whole amount each month and so no incur any fees or interest. I thought that was pretty self explanatory. To get any form of credit when your struggling to cope as it is, is a bad idea. As to the second paragraph regarding people neglecting their children because they can't raise £3, that's moved over into the offensive so I suggest before you continue attention seeking you apologize to people and look at the flawed values you are neglectfully teaching your own children. If parents can't raise £3 they are neglectful?0 -
callumm9999 -Im sorry I dont wish to be rude to you but if you have come on here tonight just to answer back to people - here is my response to your post
Im not going to repeat myself but you clearly have not been reading the posts from the start of the day - I am for want of a better word disabled and am unable to leave the house (Idont like that word but my Dr etc refer to me as this) - I have a food shopping order to be delivered today - due to this problem I was unable to have my shopping delivered - and yes as you kindly pointed out im one of those neglectful mothers who has no credit card etc - and no the welfare state does not solve everything! - as I had managed to re-book my weekly shop for tomorrow - my husband took a few pound out this was to cover tonights tea and his petrol - the point you have missed is that as the money has disappeared again my shopping yet again may not be sent tomorrow
and before you comment on my husband shopping he works a good 14 hour day plus being on call at weekends and its the least i can sort out so he does not have to then go and do a weekly shop
Im sorry but I dont see your comments being constructive
Just to add a note in answer to posts that crossed mine - no am not really worried about charges etc was more alarmed that staff had specifically phoned to say it was all ok (which I did by the way think was very good of this gentlemen to ring the customers he had dealt with today) and sorted and I did see it in black and white but now tonight its gone againDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -
My statement now shows the credit made earlier in the week alongside all relevant debits.
Basically back to normal, here at least. Hope everyone who's been so stressed out gets sorted sooner rather than later:)0 -
and to add one more point the gentlemen who phoned me from Natwest explained that the customers who he had spoken to and there were a lot! were genuine and all had been left with no money/food/petrol etc and no access to any money from any other sources - so we are not in a minority and to be fair on this matter I believe he was genuinely affected by itDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0

They have money in Natwest. They can't get at the money for a couple of days because of this problem. They therefore use the credit card, as an emergency, to buy food and pay off the credit card when they regain access to their account. What exactly is irresponsible about that? That is all I said - I even specifically said put it in a drawer and never use it unless you physically have to.
I don't have children... I was actually going to say I probably went a bit too far but I don't see how it's unnecessarily offensive. As I said, the welfare state is there to provide food to all children. Whether intentional or a completely innocent mistake, the money is available to always ensure children in the UK can eat. If you don't take advantage of that to it's full (even if it means denting your pride and selling the house to rely on a council housing) then I personally think it's neglect. You obviously don't - fair enough.callumm9999 -Im sorry I dont wish to be rude to you but if you have come on here tonight just to answer back to people - here is my response to your post

I don't remember calling you neglectful? And I didn't say it's neglectful to not have a credit card at all... I said that as a general rule, people shouldn't give a single bank their entire source of finance (this event being the perfect example - hopefully you will now open up a second bank/savings account/credit card with another bank incase this happens again in the future) - and I didn't say not doing that was neglectful. I'm convinced people are deliberately distorting my posts to try and get offended...
All I said about you is that your situation doesn't warrant you going "URGENT". Your husband doesn't have to go and do a weekly shop - he can just pop into a shop and buy a few items to last the next couple of days, presumably you're kitchen isn't completely empty as well. I'm sure he does work very hard, but spending 10 minutes at the local corner shop picking up some food is an inconvenience - and not an urgent thing to panic about.
I didn't say the welfare state covers everything - I said it always provides enough funds for children to eat. Can you give me a single scenario where it wouldn't?0 -
Sorry I think we are at cross purposes by marking my post URGENT i was not pointing so much out my problems - more to alert individual people that have been told or think that it was sorted it sadly does not look like it was as I was told it was sorted out in my case but now has reverted back again.
I will add i apologise if i have ranted but your posts did actually come across as in your own words "probably going to far"
People are stressed - i dont think now is the time to give lectures on how to run your finances or lives - we all live our lives differently but then Im probably a person who trys not to judge someone - if they say it affects them I try to understand it from their point of view thinking you never know if you are going to be in that situationDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -

No need to apologise but I thought now was the PERFECT time to give advice on how to better manage your finances. How saying it's probably best for you not to let a single bank control every penny of your money is "lecturing" I have no idea... In my experience, if someone hasn't managed their finances as well as they could have (which without judging you personally at all, you haven't done - doesn't mean you've done a bad job, just not a perfect job, which very few people do!) they are far more likely to rectify it if prompted to during an issue like this.0
