I've worked for three banks. Back Office IT systems were woeful, especially your bog-standard PC.

That doesn't surprise me. I don't phone my bank very often, but when I do I'm usually told the system is "slow today" or the customer service rep has to "log in to another system" to do something.

    Yup, that's pretty typical.

I don't work for a bank but do work for an IT company and from experience there are various different applications that do diferent things and access different things,. The more of these you have open/are logged into the slower your PC runs unfortunately as it is trying to deal with so many processes all at once. Most places will recommend only openeing/logging into different applications when they are needed to ensure you can still work at an acceptable speed, so yes, it is annoying but necessary to wait until the person logs into a different area/application.

£1300 odd still not in our account from a cheque paid in on Monday. Branch say had it been a cash or a BACS credit it would be there, but cheques are taking 4 working days to show up so it will be showing in account tomorrow. Watch this space ...

And me, paid £20 cheque in (and £25 cash) on Saturday - neither showing anywhere.. Paid £20 cheque into ISA on Monday, not showing in ISA at all.. but a pending credit of £20 is in my current account. Could be either of the cheques - no clue where the cash went though, grr
  • No wtc or ctc last Thursday..was hoping I would at least get one weeks payment today if not the missing one as well but still nothing...food getting very low (not good with 2 hungry teenagers!) and having to walk 45 minutes each way to work (and spend all day on my feet) as I can't afford the bus!!!

That is the normal situation. Cheques don't appear in my Basic account transactions until cleared which is 4 working days. Nothing to worry about....yet.
