Most people should be able to change their IP address by simply restarting their modem/router/homehub (the thing that plugs into their phone socket). Use www.whatismyip.com before and after to check.

This does not work on Virgin Media though.

Thank you!!! Now back on line (which suggests Natwest WERE blocking IP addresses.)

I checked my ip address as you suggested, switched router off at socket for 5 mins, checked my ip address again (it was different) and tried to get online again. Managed it first time (Unlike England!)

    Thanks again for good advice.

My employer banks with Natwest. I was a bit worried because I was due to be paid tomorrow but i've just checked my account and my pay has been credited. (I bank with Halifax).

    I've been Money Tipped!
Still waiting to have wages paid into my Lloyds account from my employer who banks with Natworst. I have had to cancel all my direct debits so nothing goes out and leaves me overdrawn and have had to contact my landlord and tell them I cannot pay the rent. We have been through a bad time recently with my husband being off sick so we used all but a couple of hundred quid of our savings and were relying on saleries going in to our account, and now this.
What I find TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE is the way Natworst have kept so quiet about it. No real apologies for placing thousands in financial hardship. How long will this go on??? Our next payrun will be tuesday and I very much doubt the money will be in our accounts on friday - in which case there willprobably be an eviction notice in the post.
Natworst have been the most UNhelpful bank ever, and have NO intention of refunding non customers affected by this. I have a horrible feeling they have gone Tits up taking all our money with them.
Why no response from the government?? I thought this bank was 80 odd percent state owned. surely they have a say??
I really feel for those living hand to mouth and don't even have enough food to tide them over, and the couple who may have lost their house purchase because of this. I hope whoever is responsible is sacked without pay or pension, they do not deserve any.

seems like its a waste of time opening all these branches. Just a PR stunt which doesnt solve anything for their customers

I notice that the Telegraph website is reporting that RBS are now saying that the problems will continue for at least another two days.
This really is an abject failure by Natwest management.

From the same piece it also seems questions will be asked...
'Andrew Tyrie, the chairman of the Commons Treasury select committee, said: “It seems scarcely credible that something like this, which has caused problems for hundreds of thousands of people, could have gone on for so long. No doubt the committee will want a full explanation.” '

Interesting comment from someone at the end too, if accurate:
'It's data corruption, isn't it - which has gone unnoticed for some time, but is now discovered. Previous backups or safe copies are useless as they are backups or safe copies of corrupt data, and are no good, leading to the necessity for a wholesale check and audit of masses and masses of data, with no guarantee of success, unless the technical bods who work down there in the engine-room somewhere can come up with a brilliant solution, which - although seemingly unlikely - is possible. I hope that they can come up with a fix, and are recognised for it - while those overseeing the debacle, to the very top, are castigated (and that is putting it politely).'

May have something to do with bacs clearance times, the new (Faster) transfer system supposedly clears in couple of hours
  • If you money goes into lloyds let me know! I am waiting on exact same thing, Money was due friday and if it isnt sorted by tomorrow we will be in trouble! My partner is a fisherman and works away! (paid by natwest) also waiting on inheritance (coming from natwest) Im stuck home with a two year old and after tomorrow i will have no money to feed him! I doubt lloyds will be too keen to give me any money so not sure what we should all do... Missed my car insurance DD (perfect) Missed the rent due date! (perfect) Luckily my land lord understands but how embarrasing! Just having to tell him i couldnt afford my rent was awful, then having to rong him each day to say ' sorry still cant pay' Its disgusting! I have no sympathy for Natwest atall! I feel for their front line staff and believ they have done the best job, but as for Everyone else! They dont know how it feels to have no money because they are all over paid and just try to save as many pennies as possible which in turn has lost people ££'s.

Is nothing showing on your Lloyds tonight? I checked around 10:45pm and it shows 1 credit for tomorrow yet no salaries :-( I o feel for you and everybody else and too think its dire how the banks have got people into these predicaments and non-fatwest customers do not have the option to draw cash over the counter we're just having to sit and wait. I shall keep you posted im at work tomorrow but do have internet access I shall keep my fingers crossed for you and all xx
