There would be no rounding down because the spend is an exact multiple of £5.

Wait, what? I thought the Ts&Cs said the rounding referred to the cashback, not the spend. I've read that term a few times and nothing gave me the impression that they were talking about the spend. Even the clarification sentence was talking about the cashback itself, not the spend. I'll have to read that again.

On second thoughts, the cashback with rounding down (to the nearest £5 cashback) in that example would be £50.

Perhaps they have 'done away with' the rounding down (perhaps to avoid confusion)?

It would appear that they round UP on your monthly statement, and then (from the T&Cs), round down at the anniversary. Very confusing, I must admit. We'll have to see if they actually go ahead with it.

We'll have to see if they actually go ahead with it.
Or why not spend a little more to go over a £5 boundary.
Surely this is very easily avoided by anyone with a calculator.

I personally think saying one thing in leaflets/statements and doing another could amount to mis-representation, but I'm not convinced they are actually going to do the rounding down.
We don't know so we can't allege lies.

Worth pointing out that it can be against the law to make false allegations which can amount to libel/slander.
Now I don't think for a minute that anyone would sue Aqua for mis-representation (although they could complain to the FOS for free) and neither do I think that anyone would get sued for defamation, but I think it's worth pointing out that it's not acceptable to just make false allegations,
Aqua have said something inconsistent, but they have not DONE anything inconsistent at the present time.

So whilst Aqua need to behave reasonably, so do individuals on social media.

    Thanks for the observations.
    So what do we do?
To ensure full £100 cashback, play it safe and spend £3333.34p plus another £12 to make up for any adverse interpretaions the 'rounding off' principle ?!

    plus another £12

Sorry, I don't understand why would that be necessary.
If you have got £100.0002 then that would be rounded down to £100.00 which is the maximum.
Why the need to spend an extra £12?

Bear in mind though you do need to keep the card from going dormant, even if it's a packet of sweets.
If there are no transactions for a long time, the card may be cancelled and any cashback forfeited. I'm not saying this is common, but it has happened to people. Not specifically with Aqua as far as I know but it's sensible precaution to spend once a month. Unless you're living like a hermit that shoudl be possible as most people buy food/petrol.

Just to be clear about this, clause 11.4 of the T&Cs that I have states quite clearly (my emphasis):

"When we pay you cachback, we will round the cashback accrued down to the nearest £5."

They are clearly stating that the cashback WILL be rounded down. Not that it MAY be rounded down.

Therefore, the example given in the leaflet is, if I'm being very generous, extremely misleading.

I will give them a call tomorrow and establish which is actually true: the leaflet or the T&Cs.

Not that it matters to me, of course. It's the principle of the thing :D

    I can't believe we are still discussing spending £3333.33 (£95) or £3333.34 (£100).

Heck, I know this is a money saving site, but spending an extra penny?!

Personally, I think I'll be spending at least an extra 67p. Might even go as far as an extra £1

    I also agree.
Though in my grandma's time 'spending a penny' meant something else.
