I overspent by GBP5 on 10th September but has not yet been charged for overspending. Do you think they might not have taking that into consideration seeing that my direct debit came out of my bank on the same day? Although it only appeared on the statement the next day?
If 10th Sep was your due date, they would typically receive the DD payment in the small hours of the morning on the 10th and add it to your "Available to spend" straight away. It would then appear in your transactions the following morning, but dated 10th. So there wouldn't be an overspend."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
They seem to give low limits to everyone. Would it make my credit file worse if I've got a couple of good cards with good limits, then an Aqua with a stupidly low limit?0

What makes your file bad is late or missed payments; a record of borrowing something and paying on time is the key ingredient of a good file. Remember that lending officers also look at 'available credit': if you have a couple of cards that you don't use, each of which has a 15 grand limit, then they might decide that you already have thirty thousand pounds available to you and refuse to let you have any more.0 -

There are various good reasons why you might want a low limit on a card. E.g. if you had an additional cardholder.
Just goes to show how paranoid they've made us all."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. I got a card a couple of months ago for using abroad. I noticed when my first statement came in that there is not very long between receiving it and the due date.
Yesterday 26th October my statement arrived, dated the 19th October, and due on the 3rd November. There is nothing on it as I pay off immediately but I now have concerns about using the card due to the time scale for paying.
Has anyone else noticed this?0 -

Yes, I've noticed it, but it doesn't bother me. When I activated the card they told me what my statement date was (same every month apparently), so I just login to the online account and pay whatever is due, leaving the minimum payment there for the DD to collect.
I'd be quite happy if they didn't send me a paper statement, but it seems you can't turn them off.0 -

I don't think it's paranoid.
New lenders do look at the limits that other lenders have already given you.0 -
Human contact made. Card activated. DD for full balance payment ordered. Reading the posts where people claimed that their cards weren't activated, before I hung up, I asked to confirm that the card has indeed been activated, citing the aforementioned posts, and was confirmed that the activation tickbox was ticked0

Yes, I noticed this when I was a customer previously
(I have just applied for a new one, but only for the cash back)
They used to send me the statements late and sometimes they would not send me one at all - I used to call them and tell them that they had not and they would state that they had always.
I was given a few charges because of this and they would never give the money back - but then last year I told them about my debt and asked for all the money back, they gave it back at once (some 4-5 years later!)
Very strange, maybe they want to get customers into a mess, but I'll take your advice here and make sure the direct debit is set up in time
