Firms would argue that it costs money (customers' money, in the end) to process orders against cards that turn out not to work.

Agreed but there are downsides to hacking off customers e.g. this company has got terrble (but true) internet reviews from me, so it may be worth trying to find a happy meduim e.g. doing stock checks before charging but not doing packing/shipping until after.

Anyway this is going off topic and I don't think it's that interesting to most people.
Suffice to say I don't consider I've been careless although I will be more even more careful in future now I am more aware that aborted transactions can leave a reservation.

Thanks for the reassssurance that reservations do not count twards to balance. That is what I would expect but it's nice to see it confirmed.

Just had my first statement. Direct debit in full set up.

Question though, if I pay some of the outstanding balance off before the direct debit date, do they reduce the direct debit, or still collect the value as per the statement?

Anyone with an Aqua card already got any experience of this?
    Thanks

I asked them about this. It the payment was made before the statement was produced then the DD amount would be reduced. However once the statement is produced they will take the amount stated on the statement regardless of a payment being made.

Does everyone that gets instant rejection for whatever reason always get the exact same text as I have quoted below? Or would I be right to suspect the below wording could be because their system specifically found the payment history was just too perfect? (my underline)
Thank you for applying for one of our credit cards. We’ve carefully considered your application, but unfortunately it’s not been successful on this occasion.
When we first get an application, it’s reviewed using both credit scoring techniques and a credit search. This helps us work out whether an applicant is suitable for unsecured credit. The search also lets us view someone’s previous payment history on their other finance agreements. If the payment history doesn’t meet our criteria, we have to turn down the application. As this is what’s happened in your case, we can’t offer you a credit card right now.
Experian, our Credit Reference Agency, has given us your information. If you need to contact them, their details are:

There is no real way to know whether what you suspect is true or not.
    You may be right.
They are entitled to reject you if you do not fit their criteria.

I have a very good payment history, good income and good credit history.
However I do use my credit cards for cash advances abroad.
I wonder if this makes me look "less than perfect".
    But again it's speculation.

Just got accepted for this and I'm a very recently discharged BR!

Credit limit is small, and I only got it for overseas spending. What will be the best way to use this card so as to help in repairing my credit file?

Just for info, I never use my credit cards for cash advances, pay off all using direct debits, have a good range of cards already with good limits and still got accepted. I think maybe pot luck sometimes!

The actual payment is done via Worldpay, so most web browsers block the site as its effectively a popup window. Allow popups and you'll be ask for your name, address, card details, etc.

Yes. Use the sort code/account number (with CC number as reference) given under points 4 here:
