I logged into the aqua website and the card shows a zero balance (correct) but nothing indicates it is closed. My credit limit still shows and the 'available to spend' figure is my full credit limit rather than zero. Anyone else checked online recently? Does you card still show an available spending amount?
    See post 2496.

    Oh, and 2535.
  • Have written a letter of complaint to Aqua today.

I called Aqua (for the first time) yesterday to ask where my cheque was. The response I got "They were all sent out beginning of March, yours must have got lost" did not impress me. There's no need to lie :(

I did ask had there been any other issues with the cheques... "no none at all". When I said I'd seen reports of cheques being rejected etc there was a lot of back tracking.

I gave my bank details so they could do a bank transfer but the operative could not give a timescale of when the transfer would be completed.

That was when I gave up and said I would be sending a written complaint to them. Unfortunately I don't have much faith in them handling my written complaint either.

    I'm not angry, just disappointed

Well, they didn't hang about. Sent my complaint via secure message on 31st March and got a letter acknowledging my complaint yesterday.

Shame they aren't as quick sending out the cheques.....

I got a letter from Aqua yesterday apologising for the problems with the cheques and stating:
To resolve the problems, aqua has been working with HSBC Bank Plc (the bank issuing the cheques) and I can confirm, with immediate effect, your cashback reward cheque will be accepted at all banks and building societies.

I had been waiting patiently with my 7-digit sequence number cheque until now, but this prompted me to finally attempt to pay it in today. In order to give it the highest probability of success, I decided to try paying it into my first direct account via an HSBC branch. Guess what - it was rejected. The staff have provided me with a signed photocopy and held onto it in order to see if there is anything they can do to put it through on Monday.

If it turns out the cheque cannot be accepted, then I'll be joining the others who have sent in a formal complaint and will of course be asking for a goodwill payment in addition to the cashback being transferred electronically into my bank account.

I also got the letter of apology stating that the cheque would be accepted at all banks. Funny that, as Halifax had (on three separate occasions, two of those being the previous day!) point blank rejected it. I'm not going to waste another hour travelling into town, queuing and then being told the same again!

Just called and they admitted they had not sent my cheque and on prompting offered £125 straight into my account - best yet?

Hmmmm... would they accept a phonecall from me now since I've officially entered their complaints process? I wonder...

I received the same letter regarding cheques on Friday, having waited for 10 days for the replacement cheque to arrive. Called them up..YET AGAIN..as didn't want the effort of going back to the bank and potential embarrassment of the cheque being rejected again.

Guy on the other end had no idea what I was talking about and had to speak to a colleague before offering me a bank transfer. Ironically, two weeks previously, when complaining about the rejected cheque I had asked if the money could be transferred to my bank account and was told no!

Then passed on to a supervisor, who was no help, regarding the whole mess and complaint about incorrect cashback in January, who then asked me to hold whilst he put me through to complaints...gave up at that point.

Have now escalated complaint to the Ombudsman, as many have in this thread, which will give Aqua more work, so things will probably take even longer to resolve ...and still haven't received the money to my account!

You couldn't make it up! Will this mess ever be finally resolved?

Well, it looks like the branch staff have managed to put the cheque through yesterday as it is now showing on my account. Fingers crossed it will clear.
