Word of warning, I did has I always do and paid the balance in full by faster payment.

Never had a problem before, however, today they also collected the direct debit in full.

I had to contact my bank to get them to reverse it.

Could be unrelated to the closure, however, when I've paid in advance by faster payment previously, it always stopped the direct debit from being taken too.

No massive issue, but it shouldn't have happened.

That contradicts their leaflet (did you get one).
Those who've closed the accounts should get the cashback 2 weeks after closure (about now).

I did get one of their "your questions answered" leaflets. I'm sure you're right in that the payments will be made soon, but when I read the leaflet I questioned it with them because it says the cashback earned will be paid into the account 2 weeks after closure - not that the cheque's paid in 2 weeks. I was told it'd be October for me, which I think is a little unfair if this is what they are going to do.

    Number 7):
"I wish to close my account but what happens to cashback earned so far?
Any cashback earned will be paid into your account approximately 2 weeks after closure. If this payment moves your account into credit, the difference will be paid to you by cheque".

I don't think what you have been told is correct.
I think it will be sent by cheque "soon" for closed accounts.
And the anniversary for those taking up the new account.

It won't be the first time that people have been given incorrect info over the phone.
BTW - when I say "soon" it could take a few weeks for them to print and send tens of thousands of cheques.

I have a £100 debit balance as I don't think they'll be efficient in sending out the cheques.

Don't get caught out with the T&Cs which state that cash back is not regarded as a payment towards the balance, so you need to make at least the minimum payment, and of course you need to clear the balance by the due date.

    Thanks for the warning.

In my case the cashback should come before the statement then my statement balance should be zero and minimum payment zero also.

In cases where the cashback comes after the statement then it's a different matter.

I will keep my eye on it it and I'm sure we'll have updates here when people start getting it.
  • Indeed, i am also still waiting for the final cashback payment of around £75. Left a debit balance of £100 for now & hoping it clears on account soon.
  • Some updates to share.

I just called aqua card customer service at 0845 601 0436. they told me my cashback will be sent to me on 14th Feb and the cashback for my girlfriend will be sent on 17th Feb.

Why are the dates different? Are they related to your respective statement dates?

I haven't taken up the offer of the new card as I took out the Luma offer instead. I was told by Aqua when I rang to ask, that I won't get my cashback cheque until the anniversary of when the account was originally opened, which for me was October, so I have to wait until then to get the £11 odd pounds that I'm due.

I wonder which advisor is correct?

I think Harry Hill would know how to find out
