I'm assuming you're not allowed to build a balance on it, but if I was to 'accidentally' transfer £500 rather than £50 and then pay my insurance off it they couldn't really do much could they? Halifax get in a strop (abusing the 0% abroad) but don't do anything other than send you a letter.

Insurance will be about £400, so that's £12 c/b. My insurers charge a £5 fee for credit cards, but if I phone and ask nicely they may even waive that too :D

That'll only work if your limit is £500. If your limit is £250 and you overpay to get a balance of £400 or more, you can still only spend £250 in a single transaction, so you'll have to pay off your insurance twice and incur a £10 fee for the sake of £12 cash back.

Ahhh so you can't just spend whatever's available on the card then? That explains why Uplink was talking about multiple £250 payments then :(

Looks like it'll be a debit card then, as £2 from Nationwide is less than the fee!
  • If you have a £250 limit and pay £200 to the card = i.e. you now have £450 to spend.

You can spend the whole amount, because I have and it shows on your available balance....

    Puzzled.

Because it shows or because you actually spent considerably more than £250 in single transaction?

I tried to pay off my balance with a debit card before current account period closed (normally pay off DD in full) but nothing happened. The payment screen asking how/much to pay came up, I entered the amount and pressed proceed but it just flicked back to the original screen. Any ideas?

Check your popup blocker. That was the problem I had.

    Probably a popup blocker.

However, that way can take 2 - 3 working days to get to your account.

Far easier to use a faster payment. It will be cleared in 2 - 3 hours.

Just too late, my statement has flipped over and I pay in full with DD (I will have to change that). I was trying to work out how I can pay for a new tv from John Lewis (£700) within my £500 limit. I have decided to buy £200 in gift vouchers from one of their shops (pay off with faster payments) and then pay by combination of voucher and Aqua card online. Do you see any holes in that one?

Just just applied and was excepted :)

I currently use a tesco credit card for everything and pay in full each month to get the points. Im now planning on using the Aqua card for the first £3600 a year and everything else on the tesco card

I am right in thinking 3% cashback is worth more than the tesco clubcard credit card even when I use the points on rewards worth 4x value
