No vehicle number required by my LA. I explained the BB would be used in various vehicles as and when when required. The BB applies to the person not the vehicle.

So if you changed your car would you need to reapply for the BB?

my council requires a registration for the vehicle it will be mostly used with, but as the others have said badges are for the person not the car.

My mother's council asks for main vehicles in which it is to be used, but I don't think they could refuse it if my mother was unable to provide this information.

She has no car herself, has never driven, and it is used in several different cars, including hire cars when some family members visit.

My Mum has had one for years and she is not allowed to drive. She had it for when either ex-BIL or SIL took her somewhere - shes even used it in OH's car on occasion. (when we've taken her somewhere, obviously)

oh right, i was under the impression they ask for the reg to assign the BB to a particular vehicle.

never been through the process but the last time I was at a local council service centre I overheard someone supplying their reg during the application process.

Two foreign women, not talking English, get out of the car they have parked in the disabled bay right outside of Tesco tonight. Looked perfectly fine, no sign what so ever of a disability, so I went and had a look, lo and behold, there is the blue badge on the dashboard.

Shop worker who was stood in the doorway after finishing work was astounded too. Then she tells me about how someone she works with who has a husband with a blue badge. She seems him staggering with his stick (her words) from the car parked in the disabled bay and around the huge Tesco. This morning she seen him (they live opposite) up a scaffold fixing the roof. There is never any sign of a stick when he is in the garden/street.

Both those examples are why people want to see whether people parking in the disabled bays should really be there. People are sick to death of people taking the proverbial.

Well I could post about the time recently about the two young lads humping guitar cases out of a car displaying a BB in a BB only parking area, but unlike some on this thread I didn't take it at face value and assumed they were cheats.

I have processed blue badges for the past 5 years and you do not need to provide a vehicle reg to be issued one. They will ask for one (Upto 3 now) but it is not essential criteria. Afterall a person doesn't have a car and no family but care agency workers can take them out and may not have a regular carer.

As for the whole nosy people business, I feel up until recent changes introduced this year, it could be that people could fraudulently claim one. Now there's a more thorough application process. Unfortunately the people who are nosy probably feel that it's not policed enough and wrongly feel it's their duty to inquire/accuse. The amount of times I have been quoted 'but so and so down the road has one and they're no worse than me' is unbelievable yet you know so and so down the road is in heart failure or kidney failure and can only walk a matter of feet before needing to sit.

And the badge is issued to the person not the car. The badge requires the person to use it. And for those who don't feel people can wrongly apply for DLA/blue badge, find the Panorama documentary on it. The problem is you have to show the side with the expiry date and not the photo

I could paste quote after quote of examples of BB abuse/iffy disabilities etc in this thread alone and wonder if wheelchair dependency should also be compulsory to qualify, eliminating the mobile at a stroke.

    Wheelchair sales would rocket!

All BB users are equal; but some are more equal than others
