I was 10 or 11. I just asked my Mum and she bought me a ladyshave. I decided pretty quick that they weren't smooth enough, so I started using disposable razors. I was terrible at it at the time, and used to cut myself all over my knees and ankles.
Thinking back, waxing would have been much better, but my Mum never suggested it (she always shaves), so I never thought about it.
I can't imagine going to Secondary school with hairy legs, how embarrasing!

I use one of the hair removing pads once in a while if I'm in a hairy hurry!

They would be especially good for someone that has never shaved their legs as her hair will be finer, it doesn't hurt and you get to remove the dead skin on your legs too, you just have to ensure she uses it in a circular movement, the first time I used it my legs were slightly reddened but that went away, they are cheap as well, 89p for two in Home bargains if you have one.

Not for 11yr olds but if anyone sees the facial hair removers - they most def don't work!!

Urmmmmm - I'm with Mademoiselle. Being a very fine haired blonde. I never had to do any shaving until I reached about 40 years old. Neither legs, nor underarms nor anywhere!

It seems with age, my body hair has grown a little coarser and I guess I've shaved legs and armpits about once a year since the age of 40.

And no - I'm not hairy monster from down the road!

  • Hi, I'm having IPL treatment done ATM, which works on a similar principal to laser, but it's probably safer in terms of skin damage. After 2 visits to the beautician, there's a very noticable difference - all but gone. It does hurt a bit, but it's over in less than 2 minutes, and I don't have to bleach anymore! Happydayz!

I had IPL done too. Works really well, though I had my last session about 2 years ago and have noticed some fairly fine, light hairs in place of what were coarse dark ones. think another session or two should help though. Quite pricey, but very well worth it if it makes you more confident and happy.
  • I've tried loads, I had electrolysis for about 15 years on my upper lip and chin. I started to notice this was leaving scars so stopped and tried IPL which was very pricey and two years later I have noticed that, if anything, they are getting worse. I have started HRT and am not sure if that is what's caused it or just my age. Now spend about 10 to 20 minutes a day using tweezers, the hairs are really strong and dark and seem to grow overnight. I am at my wits end and wish there was just a magic potion to take to stop it all growing. My bikini line is taking over and I am dreading going on holiday as I have to use cream at least every three days and this makes more sore and blotchy. I have an epilator for my legs which is great but I don't want to use it on my chin and lip as I don't want to risk pulling out the finer hairs in case they grow back darker and stronger. I have now noticed my 10 year old daughter is starting to get dark hairs on her top lip and I am worried she will be teased about this at school.

I swear by Epicare. I'm pale skinned with dark hair so my tache can get noticable, wax took a layer of my skin with it and creams always make me red for a day or two. Unfortunately once my daughter reached puberty it became apparent that she takes after me, I bought mild, sensitive hair removal creams especially for the face but they were hopeless so she had to use normal strength stuff. I really didn't like her using it on her lovely skin so did a bit of googling and found out about the Epicare and the good reviews it got, so I got one off Ebay. It's brilliant, works like threading and doesn't take very long once you've got the hang of it, it does sting at first a little bit but there's no redness. I normally just use it a couple of times a week while I'm watching the telly!

There's a video showing how it works here:

I just bought one of the unbranded ones off ebay, I think I paid about £3. The instructions are in Chinese (I think) but it works in exactly the same way as the Epicare.
