I was 11 when I started shaving my legs.

I would've loved a mum who took me for a leg wax etc as anything I ever actually did was always after a battle with my parents or without their knowledge. I never felt very self-confident as a consequence.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I'm sure I was about 11 and used a lady shave which is probably what I will offer to my girls when they get to that stage.
    :heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:
  • My girls were about that age when they started shaving - I did offer them waxing but they ran screaming from the room when they found out what it involved...

Over the years (they're now 16 and 14) they've toyed with the idea of waxing, with stuff they buy themselves, and gangs of them gather in someone's bedroom, steeling each other to do it, but the furthest they've got is sticky patches of wax stuck to their legs, which has to be cleaned off with baby oil...

So yes, now's about the time for your DD to start!
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

ooo ok same question but my DS is almost 14 and has a furry lip, very prominent so guys help me out with tales of your first shave as his dad isnt one to show and interest being absent.

I know the longer we leave it the better, and that once you start that's it, it will grow back pricklier.

But its a delicate subject as it is, (once caught him using my razor shaving his......I found out as my razor had hair on that wasn't mine or the OH) I did manage to explain that, 'that hair' doesn't get shaved that it was normal and natural down there.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

I had to nick my dad's bics - leg shaving never seemed to be the kind of discussion that would have gone down well with my mum when I was 11/12 and being called 'gorilla' out of the blue
    My TV is broken!

My daughter is 10 and i bought her some Veet cream to use no way was i going to let her loose with razors just yet although i think i was about her age when i borrowed my dads razor.

Is it just me or are girls developing younger these days ive had to do the periods talk and explain about tampons and towels already i knew nothing until i was 13. Not that i think its a bad thing kids need proper information and guidence buts its also frightening at the same time :-) x

  • I'd go for a lady shave. OK the shave isn't perfect but it's not like she'll have a young man stroking her legs  . The creams are really harsh and certainly not what I would want a child of mine using. I think I started with a razor though but I wouldn't want my DD to start with that.

I was about 12/13 when i started to shave my legs. My daughters started at the same age too. I agree with Shirlgirl that the hair removal creams are too harsh for young skin, and to get a ladyshave for her. I remember my friend shaved her legs at the same age as myself and used a razor with no guard, resulting in a deep layer of skin being sliced off from just above her ankle...ouch!

Ooh now there I can help! My DS is 16 next month (eeeek) and has been shaving since he was about 13 through necessity. He grew a beard over Christmas because I had bet him a fiver lol

Oh bought him a decent wet/dry shaver originally and it kept it under control for a while, but eventually he had to move to wet shaves. Now he has his shaver, but has to wet shave probably every other day.

It was a bit awkward for him because most of his friends weren't shaving at that point, and his skin does suffer quite badly for it. Unfortunately for him he has the legs and lower back of a large ape as well but so far he hasn't been especially bothered by this.
