Question for you all...
About a month and a half ago, I had my bikini line waxed for the first time - ouch ouch ouch! I'd been thinking about a Brazilian but was told to go for the bikini line on its own first, and so pleased I did that LOL!
I absolutely loved it, how neat it looked. Unfortunately it's grown back now so am going to get it done again soon. What I wanted to know was (and I warn you TMI!) when I was pregnant, I had varicose veins "down there" (sorry, I did warn you!) and I know you can't get waxed if you have them. I know this advice is usually for leg waxing, and the veins have pretty much gone now - but not completely gone. They're not there all the time. Would that preclude me from having more of that area waxed or not? I'm not sure!0 -
Right, I've got to ask the question-
When you go for a bikini wax, what actually happens please? Ie what do you have to take off and leave on, what is the standard wax or do you have to be quite specific about how much you want taking off (ouch, I'm wincing already). I am too embarrassed to ask at a salon, so I thought I'd save my real world blushes and just ask you lovely people! Having read the entire 'what they don't tell you about being pregnant' thread, I know you're not shy!
Any help please?0 -
OK, don't get embarrassed asking the beautician - they are trained for this.
My experience ( might be different for others):
You keep your ordinary knickers on, holding one side of the front V in and up. This gives the beautician a guide line of how far to take the de-hairing.
She puts a little talc on your inner thigh, then smears on a little bit of warm wax.
She then places a strip of fabric on the wax, and rips off.
She works her way around the very top of the thigh up to your knicker line. Then swop to the other thigh and the other side of the V.
Depending on hairyness, she might do the little hairs at the base of your tummy and any stray hairs on your thighs ( if you have any.)
If you need to take the waxing further down the thigh you will need to ask for this beforehand so that you get bikini AND thigh.
If you want the full de-fuzzing, including the bottom area, you will have to specifically ask for a full Brazilian.
I was surprised by how little the Bikini hurt (have not has the Brazilian done!) Be brave!0 -
Thank you, that's really helpful! I will take a deep breath (and invest in some painkillers!) and make an appointment. Thanks x0

if you are shy about getting your bits out in semi public could you do it yourself. I don't use wax but use a bikini trimmer and epilater. The one I use has an epilator head on it so I only remove as much as I want. I haven't tried a brazillian or hollywood with it though as it can be quite sore. Very economical and money saving though as there is only the initial outlay. As with any hair removal that involves ripping the hair out never do it when your period is due or in the first few days of your period as your skin is hyper sensitive and it hurts a lot more. epilating is fine after a bath although waxing is not.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Thanks Ali-t, I am shy, but also a wuss-I have tried using an epilator and never got on with it, so I thought it would be easier to get waxed at a salon, and let someone else inflict the pain!0

ali-t, can I ask which epilator you use? I have one I use for my legs, and its on its way out, I'll need to buy a new one soon, and was thinking of getting one I could use on my bikini line, the one I use now is a bit wide and awkward to use there. Thanks.

I use an epilator (Braun Silk Epil) on my legs & underarms but I can't use it on my nether regions - it's just too painful. I have a high pain threshold but that pain is worse than childbirth....0

I use the braun silk epil on legs - underarms hurts too much and use the phillips bikini perfect 4 in 1 for my bikini line. It has a trimmer/shaper, a shaver and an epilator depending on how brave I am feeling. Full price it is approx £30 but bound to be some bargains around at the moment.
