  • You may be interested in this one that QVC do, its currently £158.88 plus £5.45 p&p. I can't comment on whether it works as I haven't tried the QVC one or the Rio one. But with QVC you should get a 30 day money back guarentee if your not happy with it. Yes you lose out if you send it back postage wise, but least you can get nearly all your money back.

    If these things do work then results really will take time.

    Wonder if anyone can help. I bought an epilator about a month ago and have been using since, the first time yes it was agony but soon get used to it and manage to use it with no problems now. Have the usual prob with ingrown hairs but exfoliate & not too bad. However have noticed what are almost like blackheads where the hair has been pulled out - if you squeeze it it does come out but looks a bit weird, does anyone know what these are and how to get rid of it? I leave it 12 hours before moisturising & epilate just after showering/exfoliating.
    Thanks

  • Please can anyone tell me a tried and trusted way to avoid a rash after using an epilator? (for a tidy up, not a brazilian!!!!!:eek: )

    It's mainly the "strays" I'm worried about :o , not very attractive when sun-bathing!! I normally use one of those net things in the shower so ingrowing hair shouldn't be a prob.

    Both depilatory cream/shaving/even professional wax cause an awful rash so they're not an option unfortunately.....

    if you have very sensitive skin then you may get a rash no matter what you do. If it's a genuine rash and happens every time then you may need to think again about how you tidy up...

    If however it's ingrowing hairs etc from the regrowth (ie it happens a couple of days after hair removal rather than the same day) then it's really easy to reduce it and over time eliminate it - the key is exfoliation and moisturising.

    Use a good small grain exfoliator (I like Virgin Vie's salt scrub but you can make one yourself if you want to be MSE) and exfoliate the day before you remove the hair (if you do it the same day then the oils in the exfoliator often stop adhesion so you don't take as many hairs out) and then every day from day 2 onwards (it depends on your skin but often there's no need to do it the day after hair removal and you run the risk of irritating your skin if it's sensitive) for 3 days and then as needed from then on. Use a mild moisturiser too and it'll help stop the skin growing over the regrowth which is how you get the ingrowing hairs and redness usually.

    Another tip is to remove hair regularly - the shorter the hairs the less pulling you get so the less redness. Always make sure if waxing or using an epilator that you pull the surrounding skin as tight as possible to avoid pulling too. Personally I use creams or go to a salon as every home attempt at root hair removal has ended in redness or bleeding as I don't do it well enough or often enough to stop the initial pulling.
  • I think it's the itching as the hair starts to re-emerge that makes things worse!!

    Tendskin is for ingrowing hairs, if you have sensitive skin and you have a rash it may make it worse..

    Btw, there is a cheap knock off for Tendskin, if anyone is having problems with ingrowing hair...the recipe is available on the internet, its make using rubbing alcohol (think this is the same as surgical spirit), witch hazel and aspirin..

    For the rash, maybe trying dusting the area with talcum powder first so the skin isnt tacky, and the epilator slides better over the skin. And then use something soothing, like aloe gel..

    Thanks all.

    I tried following the epilation with neem40 baby cream and it worked a treat! Good for anyone else with sensitive skin like mine.

    Sk:n clinics ( http://www.sknclinics.co.uk/Display.aspx?MasterId=47d31217-eb43-4e5d-a245-812ca780afc3&NavigationId=550 ) have a 50% off promotion for October.

    Underarms = £195
    Back = £535

    The prices are for 'value packages', i.e. a block booking of 6 sessions, which is supposed to be the average number of sessions needed on each area. A single session for underarms is usually £65, so £195 for 6 is a real bargain.
    When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
