Waxing is supposed to make the hair grow finer and less strongly, can't see why it would be different on face than elsewhere. Can't comment on a long-term basis, but I know when I had my armpits done this summer the re-growth was definitely slower and finer than after shaving.

I too use bleach but not on my top lip but my sideburns! I've also used a few times on my hands (not really hairy but sometimes I think the bits there look too dark) and my friend uses on her arms. She gets a friend who has a card for a hairdressing/beauty suppliers to buy it for her as its cheaper. If you are using a lot might be worth trying to buy bulk.

How often do you have to bleach? A tub lasts me about a year & costs around £4.50. I do pluck the odd few dark ones out in between bleaching sessions.

Would it actually work out much cheaper for you to buy the wax strips I wonder?

I don't bleach as often as I should really.....I only do my lip when I'm going out. If I done it as often as it needs I'd be doing it every 2-3 weeks. I buy Jolen and it costs £4.59. As I don't use it too often it just sits in the bathroom and when I want to use it again it doesn't work as effectively as it does from new. I can get 10 waxing strips for less than £3 but I'm not sure if they are less effective if I leave them to sit about like I do the bleach. As we don't go out often I buy a new tub everytime I want to use it so its working out too dear really, and I figured waxing would be so much quicker (thats if I remember to do it the nite before :D )

I've never been brave enough to use wax so use sensitive hair removal cream instead!

I'd thought of using that too. Whats your experience of it? Do the hairs come back darker or thicker? How often do you have to do it?

    Thanks.

i am blonde but still wax my top lip. very sensitive to it and it's red for up to 48hrs!! but i have noticed the time between waxing (4 wks) is getting longer so it must be growing back thinner.

If you use hair removal cream the hairs all come through again at once and it feels a bit spikey ;)

I have all my waxing (eyebrows, lip and bikini) done every 6 weeks at a salon, I'm not a hairy mary but I prefer even soft downy hairs on my lip to be gone as when the sun catches them they are noticeable.....even when blonde.

I tried to wax at home a few times but I always end up sore... but still hairy :D

Have you thought about lazer treatment? The local salon to me does this and charges around £20. The growth is very slow and you may only need 4 or 5 sessions before it's all gone. Depending on the skin type you may see a red blotch or absolutely nothing at all. Might be worth looking into that avenue -so to speak. My sister is a beauty therapist and top lip waxing is very popular even with 17/18 yr old girls!
  • I've tried waxing, but I've found it only works properly when the hair is log enough for it to get a decent grip, so I normally use hair removal cream on my upper lip, and it doesn't grow back any thicker or darker in my experience, though I find the smell of the cream somewhat unpleasant. It's cheap though!
