Yes. I have.
The idea is daunting. The reality is usually far from it, although most people find that hard to believe until they've done it.
That's not to say it should be taken lightly though. It should not. But the process itself, the procedures and practicalities are very mundane.
As for relief?
Some people feel it immediately. For others it takes a while. For some not until you are discharged and/or it is over. For some even the process of hindsight is a longer term thing.
But if it is or was the right thing to do, then most get there in the end.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

You would have to be rather silly indeed not to take advice on BR before entering into it.
More people seem to be seeing the judge now a days and they are asking what advice has been sought. Also it is a question the clerks will ask. I know of cases where the court has told the person to come back when they have taken advice.
Fresh start, I would say 98% of people on this board are about to go/ are/ or have been BR. we also have people who have worked for the Insolvency Service and people who work for the debt charities.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I found this info,
''If the Official Receiver believes you have taken on debt knowing that you will be applying for bankruptcy then he can impose a Bankruptcy Restriction Order (BRO) which can last up to 15 years and make running your own business or obtaining credit almost impossible.''
What if he thinks you took pay day loans etc knowing you would go bankrupt when I did it to try and keep my head above water, im very worried if it was impossed for this length of time.0 -
freshstart2012 wrote: »How long did it take from deciding to go Br to actually being BR
I spent 3.5 hours completing the BR forms with the lady from CAB (she brought the forms with her but I had spent hours filing and making sure I have all the facts and figures to hand ready) and she phoned the court and made an appointment with me. I chose to go alone rather than wait for her to return after her booked holiday so took the soonest appointment they had available which was 12 days away. I then went to court and it all went smoothly there. So, a couple of weeks for me really.
Wrt your other question re:recent debt, just be honest with the OR and tell them your motives, they are used to people drowing and thrashing around in the water before they call the lifeboat."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. i didnt see the judge and my advice is to do as much prep work as you can for the official reciever. i had ref numbers and balances on all my debts to give the OR which im sure helped my case go through very easily with no contact from the OR for more info.0

Great so I may not have to see a judge...hope so I dont like the thought of going to court.
I have everything like balances already.

That is all on your BR forms and the OR will ask additional questions before working out how much if anything you can pay your creditors.
I had to see the Judge, which was not a problem, she was really nice. No one else in the room at all."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0
