Hmmm not such a great day today. Totally mis managed my money this month and am having to use my saved 1% to tide me over till Tuesday when I get paid.
I've been planning my budget for next month but its difficult as I have two small holidays to count in and my birthday (which I'm hoping will be a NSD for me at least!).
Anyway I'm OK with spending this 1%, I'm off to the Olympic Swimming tomorrow! It's going to be an great experience. I got so excited by the ceremony last night - and was so proud of my cousin who was leading out the El Salvador Team! I've been looking forward to tomorrow for over a year now and not saving £40 isn't gonna stop my enjoyment!
Hope you're all having a great weekend0 -
Meh!!!!!
my 10% is down to 5% now - but as I am saving it as the money is not due until September it's not horrific....
Got loads of listing up all over the place to sell stuff - but I'm finding it difficult to keep track of what is where... (I just don't want to double post my ebay listings TBH... )

Could I please join in? I need to make £800 by the end of October at the latest so I have broken this down into !% of £8 and aim to make this per day on average by selling on e-bay,amazon etc and at car boot sales.
Once i have cleared the clutter I will start crafting and selling.

well completed my 1st percent today by selling a couple of tops on my facebook group, excellent as it means no cut to ebay/paypal fees or postage so all the cash is mine. got a few items finishing on ebay tonight and tomorrow with bids so hoping to make my next percent through the week ones i work out profit from them.DEBT

hello,
i am more of a lurker, but thought i would offer you my suggestion - i am in the process of having a clear out and have an old note book where i write down everything that im listing and where i have listed it (eg ebay, gumtree, ect), then as it sells i write sold over it in marker, then completly cross it out once it has been posted/collected.
Maybe a little long winded, but works for me0 -
OK, trying to get a move on with mine now. I have a few old PS3 games that I might be able to re-sell so might be able to get a couple of % if I'm lucky. I'll go and have a look now at which site will be best for reselling games.
My % list:
Money not spent on Grocery Challenge: 1% (so far - from June)
Selling computer games/DVDs: 0% (yet!)
Money found on the ground: 10% (of 1%)
Etsy: 0%
eBay: 0%
Other than that I've not had much joy with making % and am turning more into a lurker myself. I'm still enjoying reading the thread though.
Might have a go at making some stuff to sell on Etsy though - that's tempting!

Bids up to £20 on Ebay so far
Feels so good to be clearing stuff out, I feel like I'm making a fresh start
Hopefully with the next batch of Ebay stuff I can get myself upto a full percent from Ebay sales
New mutt has made herself at home on my bed, had to lend him indoors £50 to get her so I've adjusted my daily budget accordingly and when he pays it back that'll be another % in the pot. OH is also borrowing my car to go get my birthday present today, no idea what it is but I'm hoping it's a sewing machine. Got some great ideas and would like to make some doggie jackets, possibly to sell if I can get good enough!
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time0 -
Afternoon everyone,
I have just had the biggest storm you can imagine - the kids were really scared (so was I if the truth be known!). I'm just thanking my lucky stars as I was asked to have a stall at a local event today which went on until 5pm - glad I did'nt as it was outside!!!!!
Well I have'nt actually done much towards earning my next % over the last couple of days. I did use a 50p coupon in Tesco's today though and yesterday had a NSD (which is quite good considering its the kids holidays!), so this will be added to the totals in due course.
I have also done a bit of swagbucks, superpoints and wahoo bingo where I have earned a few points/ stars each day. These are going to take me a while to get any returns but even if they make me 1% between them I will be happy xx
I have also just set myself another challenge to make at 2288 items before I can buy anymore crafting goodies. You can read all about it in my thread
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3701419
where I will hopefully keep you all updated on my progress. Now if I can stick to this no craft spending (you will note from my thread that I have failed miserably once already!!!!) I reckon I will save at least £510 (which translates into 17% of my total). So here comes the long road ahead .......
Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Hey everyone,
I've read this thread from start to present with great interest and I think it is an absolutely brilliant idea! I've really enjoyed reading the way you've been achieving your %'s and I would love to join in
1% is £167
To get my 1%'s I'm going to:
Sell 1/2 of my book collection
Sell lots of craft items that I have not used and probably never will
Try and do a few more freelance makeup jobs
Try and make savings on food budget and petrol budget
Use the money from my second job
Use the pay increase from my new job
Any additional income from other half's second job
Ebaying any unwanted items on eBay
Making jewellery and quilt items to sell on Etsy
£5 a month from paying money into Halifax account, will get other half to do the same so make that £10 total!
That's all I can think of for now but really looking forward to the challenge!!!
Nikkei x2012 '1% at a time' member 99 - 17% 1% = £167
2013 '1% at a time' member 99 - 15.8% 1% = £1390 -
Evening - I have just read the whole thread as well - I LOVE it!!!!
Can I join pretty please? With a number and everything?!!?! My 1% is £100 this is going towards finishing paying my CC, then savings for first baby and improving house deposit... due in Jan so will do my best to do my best before then!!!
I am a dipper in and outer of these things and have been AWOL for a month or two but am back with a vengeance - my main ideas are:
Ebay
Tutoring (I am a teacher and have been asked to do a couple of hours a week over the summer so that is helping a lot!!)
Risk free Will Hill offers
Matched betting
Bingo etc!
Make and sell 20 items of jewellery
PAD's
Selling books (thinking Green Met)
Competitions
Couponing
Cashback
Nectar points
Boots points
Premium bonds winnings - have £25 to cash - not sure whether I will get anymore!!
And the trusty change jar!!!
I think I am doing it slightly differently, I have all my ideas in a spreadsheet list and keeping a tally of how much I have raised towards each 1%, if I make it, then start another row with tutoring again for example... :rotfl: I think this is clearer in my head than written down!
Anywaytotal so far 4% I'm happy with that! :T
