  • I'd just like to say how inspiring I've found this thread. I am currently out of work and hoping to start a degree at the Open University in October and while I have the cash for the first module, I'm going to be scraping to get the money together for the second! I'm about £500 short so I've adapted the idea to make 50 ways to make £10. I didn't think it would be possible to get any funds together but in the space of a week I already have my first £10 from walking any short journeys that I would usually take the bus for (when I say short, these have been up to 3 mile distances so far). Maybe I won't get to 100% (I seem to be stuck at idea 35 for making £10) but anything helps towards the total and puts me in a better position.

Thanks very much, I'll return to quiet lurking now!

Hey, no need to lurk - join in - it's fun :D

It's great that you've got 35 ideas and a few % already! Can any of your ideas be repeated? E.g you might get another tenner from another week of walking and not taking the buses, or if you've got car boot sale/garage sale listed you could put that as a x2 - one now and one at Christmas!

Also if you break it down to percentages £5 is your 1%, it sounds like a lot of your ideas will earn you several percent at a time! :T
  • @Decluttering - also as your 1% is a fiver, you might want to list a few tasks on fivesquids.co.uk if you have any creative, writing or unusual skills.

They're not too impressive I'm afraid, as it's such a low target I've been able to recycle ideas, for example I know I have enough books to make £10 on eBay and still have enough to make £10 from Amazon Trade In or similar. Same with the DVDs and CDs, I've got them down to each make £10 on various sites. Car boot sales, paid surveys etc.

Then there's the more unusual items that I have that sell really well for me on eBay. I got almost £5 for a single pokemon card last month when I started to sell off my collection. Altogether I made about £20 and I've still got plenty more to get rid of and a few eBayers have been looking out for more (I know this because the same group of people keep on buying them!) So I'll make £10 from my pokemon cards and if I'm lucky, maybe £10 from the Yu Gi Oh cards I inherited.....I don't know very much about Yu Gi Oh but my friend took a look at the collection and has told me how I should list them to get the most value.

I've also made quite a bit in the past selling old magazines so I might give that another go. The best ones have probably all gone now but fingers crossed, I might get another £10.

Thanks LMUD, the only reason I'm slightly unsure about whether to join is I tend to join a challenge and then wander off! It's still going on in my head but I forget to post or visit the thread. I'll try to visit regularly though and not be too lazy!

I'm definitely up for more walking! I've been quite impressed by it actually, there have been times I've missed a bus and then had to wait half an hour for the next one but actually if I'd just started walking, I could have been halfway there by the time the next bus is due! I've found it a lot easier when I've had a walking buddy with me, probably because they slow me down a little. I tend to speedwalk naturally and it can be very exhausting!

Fivesquids looks brilliant, that can be number 35 on my list! Hopefully I can offer something that doesn't involve writing anything on my boobs though, that doesn't appeal. I'd like to think they're worth more than a fiver too ;)
    Thank you competition posters!

Just here to say I have another 1% bringing me to a total of 5% :j
I got this 1% as leftovers from money MIL gave me for boys school uniforms! As I have 1 going to pre school and 1 at primary I only needed £100, this left the boys £100 each for shoes & clothes at end of August, £10 each for their money boxes & 1% left for savings pot. All with the agreement of the boys of course. My MIL is very generous :)

Sigh. Just had a naughty KFC because I forgot my packed lunch (the VP of the company was in today and I felt a little distracted). No supermarket visit today though so that's good. The Tesco meat offer is ending on the 17th I think so going to do a big old stock up on meat on shopping day.

Nothing except some pennies into the ISA, I got fed up of it sitting on an odd number so rounded it up. Payday in 8 daysish, and my cheque will be cleared in 5 days, so another few percent should be coming my way. May go downstairs and raid my dvd collection to see what some of them will raise on MusicMagpie, there's loads I'll never watch again that were impulse supermarket buys, so perhaps another percent may be coming my way?

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time

Try Webuy.com aswell it was worth it for me to split sell them. I got £20 this way instead of £11 as some went for more on Webuy and vice versa :)

Awesome stuff Liz-Paul! happy%20jump.gif You're doing very well. It's great to have support from the family!

I've listed a few tasks on fivesquids.co.uk they just need to get approved. Might get a few quick sales from them, just for writing or editing tasks.

Pay day tomorrow - huzzah! claping%20hands2.gif

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the lovely welcome little miss.

So this thread has me hooked. I dug out an old broken gold necklace yesterday and got a call today with an offer of £116 I was delighted so the cheque is on its way. I'll add it o my total once it's in the bank and cashed. Also sold an old BROKEN PSP on eBay today for £25 so happy days. I'm going to wait until I physically have the money before it goes on my % but I'm really hoping for a good 10% by the end of next week. I would never have done any of this without this thread. Wicked :T:T

Hope you are all having nice evenings
