Just did a quick calculation and realised that the two cans of Coke I buy every day at work are costing me £340 a year! That's 4.85% of my total! So I'm going to cut it out and just drink Coke when I'm at home (I'm a complete Coke addict! I give it up each year for Lent... have done for past 7 years... but as soon as Lent is over I get back on the Cokes!)

I've printed out a 10x10 grid with £70 in each square.... I'll be able to colour those in everytime I put aside another 1%. And I've gotten a bunch of envelopes to put the cash in and seal each 1% so that I don't just spent it.

bpsp10 if you have a Lidl near you their free way coke is just as nice as real coke (seriously). We get the diet variety and its 39p for 2litres

Little-Miss - just try and work out your average food spend and then try and half it for a fortnight - using seriously reduced items or just getting beans and baked potatoes or using up the cupboard - that should be close to 1% and you can survive anything for a 2 weeks

(and then next month - do it again)

Unfortunately.... I have stupidly sensitive tastebuds when it comes to Coke. I can even blind taste between Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero! I have complained to restaurants before when they advertise Coke but it's actually Pepsi that comes out. My friends think it's mental that I can tell from the smell the difference between Coke and Pepsi! I guess it's my party trick except I cannot market it! hahhaa.

But I shall trundle down to Lidl, it's only 5 min walk away, and give their coke a try in the name of MoneySaving!

Thanks Little Miss, I know this sounds crazy but on that calculation I would actually make more profit sticking with the cot size.
Might have to have a re-think about my 7up addiction, I bought 50 cans off approved foods once and they lasted me 10 days, so buying in bulk didn't work, I just drank them in bulk :).
Good idea about the shopping, might give that a try, went to the co-op last night and all the bread was down to silly prices, bought a load for the freezer and saved about a fiver, so I probably could do it just for a week or so, actually perhaps longer before I got really bored.
I have three accounts all tyed up with the same bank,

    1 Current account
    2 Savings
    3 ISA
when I am taking money from paypal or getting payed for mystery shops/cash back, it goes into the current account, then I move it to savings, when I have the 1% together I them move it again to the ISA.
That is what works for me, if I had money in the house I would find things to do with it, some of my family think it is awful that I go around without a penny on my person, but that is what works for me.

I know this sounds crazy but do you have a soda stream thingymabobthing? would that be cheaper?
Approved foods (I don't work for them honest:)) Had the syrup stuff made about 50lt for about a tenner.
I know what you mean about the Coke Pepsi thing I can tell the difference from the smell as well. (Coke uses sugar, Pepsi uses high fructus corn syrup). When I was married my husband would never allow Pepsi in the house, used to say it was a communist company, never could understand it, but it made for an easy life to leave it alone.

My OH was the same - and she was very pleased with the Lidl.

At the end of the day its only 39p and its a lovely sunny day!!. They do do smaller bottles, but I don't think they are the same value

Yes I know what you mean about the % reducing oer time - but it is easier to think in a certain figure - and the that wil have interest added as well so its swings and roundabouts.

For me - I pay off any extra I can find off my cards as quickly as possible - even it that would only be half a percent.

Do not hoard it as you are just wasting money on paying the card people interest.

Making your own food for work/school/collage is a pretty easy way of getting a few 1%s over the year as well.
Especially as the nicer weather is here and you can go and sit in the park, so having a stretch as well, might help with the waist line, quiche and salad from home has got to be better for you that any thing that comes from a plastic triangle box.
But I guess that is an obvious one.
If you can't be bothered to make the whole meal at least take a drink from home as that is where the huge mark-ups are.

:rotfl:I'm just as bad! I once did a hike on holiday up to the top of a volcano. I saw a guy selling ice cold cokes at the top - my idea of heaven - I thought he was a mirage! I paid something ridiculous for that can but it was the best drink I've ever had!

If you go to home bargains they sell genuine coke for 25p a can. Whack it in the fridge at home and take them for lunch. So that's 2.50 per week instead of 1.30 per day. That's a saving of £210 a year!

I'd rather eat my own shoe than suffer a Coke Zero.
