  • Apologies if someone has already mentioned these points - I only had time to read one page of replies!
As somebody suggested, list lots of things for a low price on eBay, but don't start at £1, start at 99p or under which is fee-free. Free listing weekends (for any starting price) have already been mentioned and are worth waiting for. They are quite frequent, every 2 or 3 weeks.
Recently they had their first Buy It Now free listing promotion (for 10 days max), which is brilliant as you may shift some things that don't go in auctions.
The drawback with books is the postage costs, which reduces the number of bidders, so again, a low starting price is more likely to get sales. A low starting price can end up with higher bids, anyway.
Finally, if you make things, you could try folksy.com in the UK, or etsy.com. I haven't sold anything yet, so can't give any feedback, but there's no fee to open a shop. Just ignore the nice things to buy...

Sanfran - thanks for the info on the postage costs, I couldn't find them anywhere on the site!

  • I really look forward to following it to see you hit your target!

Thank you shoe_gal :jIt really helps to have folks joining in!

It makes me keep thinking of new ways so I can keep up with you all!

I need a way of finding couples & brides-to-be and refer them to my partners wedding business. Then I can make some money on the referrals and they get some money off too!

I've put a few business cards up, I've been on the facebook groups too. Contacted friends and offered them the referral deal too. Got a few enquiries so far! Hopefully they will turn into my next 1%

That's the next task on the list for this week! Off to research wedding fayres.

Oooh it's also my birthday next week, money has kindly been requested so that should help next weeks target too!

Have a great afternoon everyone, keep thinking of that next 1%

Is it free to advertise on gumtree?, as I read tarot cards, so far I have done it over the phone (that is how I work best) after the money has been put in the post, but there must be an eisier way

SanFran, what about over the internet? If you had a little website you could accept payments through paypal and then either they could call you or you could video chat over skype.

I've built quite a few websites, if you would like some free help setting this up over a weekend, PM me!

Also I would add that gumtree is free (you can pay for a premium advert but it's not needed) and it is getting more and more popular since the TV ads started!

I've done quite a few surveys and had several £10 vouchers from Valued Opinions, plus a few more from My Survey, as well as a couple of £50 cheques from You Gov and a couple from Global Test Market of around £32 (the equivalent of $50)

I'm hoping to be able to make a big dent in my debt by next year, as National Accident Helpline are dealing with my local Council as I broke my elbow by tripping on an uneven pavement back in March, though I don't recommend this as the easiest way to reduce debt. :)

Hello, just wanted to say thanks for this thread Little Miss Uni-debt!

Just started reading it today, had never heard of the book selling sites and now have a pile of old books to go to Fatbrain which should get me £25!

What an inspirational thread. Such a simple idea but so encouraging...now looking forward to getting home from work to draw up little squares I can colour in - I'm thinking one for a debt and one for a savings target...
    Thank you!
