@415SanFran - It's a bespoke, hand-made quilt. Unique etc...... Use the right words and you'll be able to sell it for any price! How big are they and what are they made out of?

@LittleMiss - great thread idea! We have £7,079 debt so that means 100 payments of £70! Much easier! (I'll ignore the 79p as that will come out of minimum payments!)

Seeing the post earlier about piano lessons inspires me to start teaching guitar again. I used to about 4/5 years ago but then got married and did uni so life got in the way. Now I could fit in a few lessons a weeks and clear 1% each week that way! So I'll be getting on gumtree ASAP.

We just moved house over the weekend and don't get the internet until next week (I'm doing this at work at the moment!) but once we are back online at home, I'll be checking out all the online suggestions (dooyou etc).

    Great post; I'm in!

    Great post; I'm in!

they are cotton, with a fleece backing but they are probably geared at certain people, I have enough material for 3 star trek, 2 American football (Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears, 1 Disney princess's, and a cutsy boys one, (cars, boats, robots, balls), cute frogs on lily pads, also last night I found a load of cutesy cat material, and Halloween stuff, And San Fran 49ers.(But I might keep that for me)enough for about another 7 quilts.

I guess they are about the size of a cot quilt, or lap quilt, what does "Bespoke" mean!! It seems to be one of those new words that have just popped up from nowhere that people tag to all sorts of stuff, a bit like the word "gourmet" even the humble biscuit/pizza/sandwich/sweets can be "gourmet" these days. More like pretentious and expensive if you ask me.
That said if it works, I will use it.:rotfl:
By the way welcome to MSE, I hope you get as much out of it as I have, some really fab people on here! And look at you< Giving good advise already......took me ages before I could give anything back, everyone seemed so knowledgeable about everything.

The real meaning of bespoke means that they have been tailored to the customers specification. But as with all buzz words... I've used it slightly out of meaning - - I was trying to highlight how your quilts will be totally unique to the buyer (buzz words are good for marketing such things on the various selling websites).

I would suggest a lowest selling mark of £35-£40 for each quilt based on what you've said. I saw a few months back that a lady was selling single-bed sized patchwork quilts for £150 each! And she was just using scraps of material that she didn't want anymore. It's easier to lower prices than to raise them :)

Don't do yourself down SanFran, anything 'personalised' or made-to-measure is bespoke. I would certainly say anything handmade and not mass made deserves the title 'bespoke'

If a person picks the material and tells you what size they want - then it definitely is bespoke :D

AAH so if someone was to say "Can you make me a quilt for a (name a theme) in X,Y and Z colours" that would be bespoke?
Shoot I have done that many times they have just paid for material, 101 Dalmatians was the last one I can think of, she bought three pairs of curtains, I made a quilt out of one pair and a window quilt out of another pair and she used the last pair as a set of curtains.
I should have taken photo's of the finished room and used it as an advertisement at least!
Sound's like I could have charged a pretty penny for that lot! Ah well, you live and learn as they say!

I would say that's bespoke, any chance you could get a photo now, it would make a great add, sounds like you have a great talent. :D

Loving all the new people joining the challange!

Just wanted to ask, are you guys all saving up your 1%'s and paying off when you get 100%, or are you paying the 1% to the debt as soon as you have it?

Was chatting to DH about this last night, and he was saying that if you pay off 1% at a time, surely the total debt reduces, but then interest added on means you might end up paying 105% or whatever.

I think he is just overthinking things tbh, but just wondered how you lot were doing it :-) x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

My plan is to pay in the 1%s when I get them (although likely to be bundled into 5% batches)

For the very reason that I want my interest to decrease as I go along. So indeed I may pay 105% at the end of the day.... but I'm a simple man so cannot factor in potential interest charges :)

Hi Zepsgal, the way I'm I consider it is :-

1)There's your 100% (your debt total at the start)
2)Then there's your monthly min payments & interest which is a separate payment. You can lower this by paying your 1%'s in faster.

You MUST pay your minimums THEN save your percents as well. This keeps your debt steady (as long as no further spending occurs)

The quicker you pay your 1%'s to your cards, the less interest the bank gets and the lower your minimum payments are.

I am paying my mins each month. Then every time I have about 5% in cash I make a big payment to my highest interest card.

To me, my 1%'s are me saving towards what I owe. My min payments feel like a 'service charge' for rolling my debt on to the next month.

Just to underline again - If you keep your cash until you have 100% then you will pay more interest.

Exactly :j I've had a look at some quilting sites online.

They seem to range from £40 for cot size to £100 for super king size.

Alternatively you could just decide how much profit you want per item and add that onto the material costs.
