Hi everyone and Little miss, I've just discovered this thread from Skintsue over on the 'Just say NOvember' thread, and am loving it! The 1% idea is extremely motivating and makes debt seem manageable. Have donwloaded the 100 ways to sell/earn/save too and already emailed it to an interested friend. Joined the schoolzone site, as I'm a teacher for my sins and gonna flog some perfume bottles on ebay and check out some books I caan trade on Amazon.
Just need go back and read all the posts now. :money:0 -
Completely agree with little miss & citizenkitten's advice re presents nanell! Last Christmas I bought everyone's gifts from Charity shops (well all 6 of the family/friends that were getting pressies from me
) I knew what everyone liked, was obsessing over, needed and worked from there. Spent less than a tenner on everyone and they all LOVED everything they got. Lots of it you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else or would've cost so much more. Another of my fail-safe gifts is a home-made shortbread in christmas shapes or tray bakes on "vintage" trays/plates etc from charity shops, they're always welcome!
Thanks for the info re mobile phones liz-paul! I'm due an upgrade soon and had been browsing. I want to drop my monthly payment (£26 but varies between that and up to £30 if I've sent a couple of photos/gone over my mb allowance) Going to have a look at sim-only deals & cheaper monthly packets but paying a bit for the phone I want.
Well done on the ebay front skintsue & determined diva! I'm taking a break from it for a little while, I've managed to list 16 items so far today. Will have some re-lists to do when my auctions end tonight and I've got photos taken for another 15 items. Think I'll go do some write-ups for them while watching a dvd!
Building foundations still on the percenting front - ebay, getting back into my SE stuff in time for christmas, keeping to my budgets & meal plans  I'm going to be keeping some of my shortly to be earned percents in my current account to keep me out of my overdraft for the whole month instead of dipping into it before payday, this'll mean I'll have more spare cash, about half a percent, when next month rolls around and I've not got overdraft charges

Thanks for the advice everyone! Can't wait to get down the charity shops tomorrow lol!
Was hoping to declare another 4% today as its cleared from paypal. But I'm very short this month, so might have to keep this just to get me by! I'll see how the Christmas present saving goes!
Just cashed out £10 dotty P's voucher on valued opinions wooooo! Thats another christmas present sorted! And reminds me why we spend so much time on these surveys!October Awakening: Food £20/20 Petrol £50/50 Misc £190/194.01 Extra Earnings £100/196.56 SFDs 20/220 -
Today i've done alot of my Christmas shopping.
This is the first year I have been 'cheap and cheerful'. I bought half price gift sets from Tescos and gifts on offer in Sainsburys. I even bought a lovely set in Tesco for £2 for dd's pre-school teacher.Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0 -
In the hope of making another few percent, I made a budget for christmas for what I can afford. Now I'm trying to slash this by using as many discounts, vouchers and freebies I can. Then when I come underbudget, I will put this towards my percents as well!
Read Martins email and signed up to Boots Treat Street, bought a present off eBay for £2 (worth about £10) and got £5 worth of points for Boots (which will go towards another present. So already £13 saved off my christmas Budget wooooo!!
Also I need some help, I never get much more that a toiletry gift set worth a couple of pound from my MIL, but I always spend a decent amount on her. In an effort to save this year I'm cutting her present cost to minimal. I have literally a drawer full of samples of various beauty products which were all freebies. Would it be really stingy to give her these, as there cost me nothing at all??
I really like your idea of having a budget and then slashing with freebies etc., to make your percentages - might give that some serious thought tonight.
As for all your samples, do you have a nice basket/box lurking about that you could put some tissue paper/shredding in the bottom and turn it into a luxury-looking "hamper"? Perhaps a charity shop/car boot might have a basket for 50p or so? You get to declutter your own place at the same time - RESULT!!!:T

Need advice please. I'm doing the 1% on a credit card £67 but I'm also snowballing my debts. Do you think I should keep throwing the money into the snowball so it will be 1% extra or use the1% towards the credit card so I'm bringing down balances on both?
The credit card min payment is over £200
Thanks
