I'd guess they've dropped the rates on other accounts by less than 0.25% to try and protect people whose rates were lower to begin with. To be honest, 1.75% is still a pretty good rate and I can't see anything equivalent out there (I had the same letter as you).

I would like to see a bank/BS with principles eg the CE of RBS who hinted at balancing the needs of savers too.

RBS and principles - I'll believe that when I see it!

Indeed. It makes my decision to xfer a lump to their 3 year 2.3% fix almost exactly 1 year ago, look good:o
