I've lost nearly 5 stones over 2 years, not awfully quickly but steadily and no major regains. I am still overweight with BMI of 31.4, and working towards mini goal 30 BMI. Not finding it easy, but am determined.

Hi Katya (blue-kat), wow what an achievement! It's the keeping it off that I'm jealous of! Haven't a clue about my BMI and to be honest I'm a bit scared to even check it out as I know it will be bad at the moment.

I think I'll wait until I'm the weight I want to be and then check it out :) (Yes I can be an ostrich sometimes!)

I tried WW for a couple of months and became so obsessed with food as I was always eating a meal and at the same time trying to work out how many points I had left and what else I could eat. The thing that scared me on WW was that once you hit your points you had to stop eating!

I'm very happily on Slimming World right now. I like the way I can build all the free foods into my day and not feel hungry or that I'm on a diet. I had chocolate when I fancied it the week before last (mmm Crunchie bar!) and for once I didn't feel guilty about eating it. I attended the club back in the early 90's and instead of going to club now I have the magazine every month (courtesy of Major Charles Ingram and the magazine thread which tells about free offers for subscriptions :) ) bought an up to date syn value book and put £25 a month (what I'm saving on not going to club) into my ING account so I have a clothes fund ready for when I'm happier with my size :) This thread works as my inspiration and my 'meeting' as I know I have to get weighed and put my weekly result on here.

Good luck with reducing the sugar intake, it seems to be hidden everywhere nowadays!

Now to the weekly weigh in news which I forgot to post up there ^^ ;)

Got weighed and have lost another 2 lbs this week :) So now I'm overjoyed to say I've lost 3 stone since the thread started.

    *bounce* *bounce* *happy* *joy* :):)

    (Can you tell I'm celebrating? ::) )

Not been too hard this week with food and the fact that I walked up 2 tube escalators and 2 flights of stairs quite quickly 3 times this week, so I didn't have to wait for the next hotel shuttle has helped this loss! Normally I stand on the escalators and wait for them to get me to the top ;D

Trying to plan some sort of treat when I hit 4 stone lost. Trying to think of something nice though that isn't food related... anyone got any good ideas? I hate clothes shopping so that won't work - it's too depressing seeing something lovely then (if it is in your size), to look in the mirror and look like a badly dressed sack of spuds! Also, I intend to keep losing weight so the thought of wasting money on something that does look nice but I'll only be able to wear for a couple of months is depressing!

I'm not into girlie things and find food is such a treat that I can't think of something really lovely to do. I work away from home and stay in hotels all week so a weekend away is not a treat to me! The only thing I can possibly think of is a London theatre show...

Please help folks, anyone any ideas? Also waiting to see how everyone else has done this week :)

Well done, and what a good idea, although I think I'd celebrate 3 stone lost!

London show sounds nice, or a massage and pampering session? Needn't be girlie, here in Bristol we have the Relaxation Centre which is a super place to go with a partner.

Or what about something you wouldn't dare have done 3 stone ago, like go-karting, snowboarding, windsurfing? I think I told the story on LW 1, 2 or 3 about the chap who lost stones and stones because he tried to buy a sports car and couldn't fit into it!

As for me, not a lot has happened this week, too much driving, not enough walking, and the discovery of a cinnamon bun coffee shop in Southampton ... must get back on track tomorrow.

hello everyone, i would love to lose some weight through this group with all your tips. my story is i weigh 15st 4lb and am 5' 7". have hovered around the 12.5-13 st for couple of years. have gained the rest in the last year. i slipped a disc a year ago and was so bad have been off work since and at home most of the time. i have very restricted mobility and when i go out it is in a wheelchair. my disc has now completely collapsed and am awaiting a date for surgery. am surgery would go alot better if i shifted a bit of weight and gp agrees with me. she blames comfort eating for the extra weight and i hate to say i agree with her.
did atkins year ago lost stone for wedding but regained it on honeymoon, dont want to go there again so any help gratefully received   :-[
    Welcome homealone.

OK, if you have a problem with comfort eating then there are two possible approaches which spring to mind: one is to remove the temptation - no biscuits in the house! - and the other is to find an alternative comfort. You can do both at the same time, of course!

Hopefully t'other half will support you in removing temptation, and if he can't do without biscuits - or whatever - then ask him to put them where you can't reach them!

I have never been convinced that a carrot is an adequate substitute for chocolate, but if all else fails, it does exercise the mouth muscles. ;D So does chewing gum.

If you think you're hungry between meals, try drinking a glass of water, then wait for that to go down. Most of us don't drink nearly enough.

Now, if only I had taken my own advice ...

I'm still thinking about your treat, VelvetGlove, probably because it will be a long time before I'll deserve a big one like that.

And maybe it's me, but I cannot imagine how you can have lost 3 stone without going down a clothes size or two. But your body image may not have caught up with the New You. So you may be imagining you still look like a sack of spuds, even if you don't. Plus, if you haven't done a lot of clothes shopping recently you may not realise that they do marginally more attractive sacks these days, in some places. ;D

(Now I have the reverse problem: if I look at photos of myself I sometimes think I look really fat, but I don't normally think of myself as fat even when I look in the mirror. It's made it very hard for me to get started, because I know intellectually that I am - in clinical terms - obese, but I don't feel obese, I don't think I look obese, and all my colleagues shout me down when I say I am obese. It does help to be tall!)

Anyway, back to you. I also worry on your behalf that it may take longer than a couple of months to lose that next stone, because the less you have to lose the harder it is.

What I'm wondering is, how about booking a personal shopper session at Debenhams? I've heard good reports: you get a nice cup of coffee and a chat at the start about what you want. She checks your size, and she goes running round the store bringing back things for you to try on privately. If you don't want to buy anything, you don't have to.

Now the beauty of this is that the session doesn't cost anything, so you could go for it now just to get some ideas of what you can wear now that you haven't thought of. Or just to buy something that you need anyway, which isn't a particular treat because you need it, and you've still got that treat waiting for you!

Hey Ally, good to see you back around again! That's great news about your trousers! I'm finding my jacket is a lot closer to closing as it used to be inches apart with no hopes of the buttons doing up!
