Hi!
I hope it isn't too late for me to join this thread
I'll introduce myself to you all ~ my name is Scarlett, I'm 26, and have put on a hell of a lot of weight over the last year, all due to being given the wrong medication  but thats another story!! lol I was being weighted while medicated, and put on a stone a month ~ wheres that shocked smiley when you need him?!?! ROFL
I started on the 22nd feb, weighting 20 stones & 8 1/2 lbs. I have been :j excercising like mad ~ and cut out completely sweets, chocs, fried foods etc... not as hard as I thought it would be!
I weight myself this morning, and I weigh in at 20 stones and 1/4 lb. I was pretty happy with this :T
Only thing is, I've no support, I can't join slimming world/weight watchers as I can't afford it, so I'd like to join you guys, if I can
Kindest Regards,
Scarlett (starry Eyed)0 -
Oh and also - my motivation!
I'm dying to go swimming with my 4 year old daughter again, but I'd not be seen dead in a swimming suit! :rotfl: So my mum takes her.0 -

Welcome - don't worry about joining a club - you can access slimming world for free and this weeks password is custard. Whatever system you want to use, there will be someone on here who can help. Well done for the amount you have lost so far and I am sure it will be easier once the better weather arrives.
Good luck:):):)"This site is addictive!"

I reccomend the Rosemary Connely diet for anyone trying to lose weight. There is a number of options of how to slim (on-line, through the post and classes). The diet is focused towards a healthy diet and classes have a (private) weigh in at the start followed by an exercise class. If you go to the website there is a token for half-price membership aswell.0

Hi Elona
Thanks for your message ~ also thank you for the Slimming World password, I shall most definately check that out.
I'm not really following any plan as such; just cutting out fried foods, sweets and take aways. I never was a big fruit or veg eater, so have begun eating some fruit whenever I fancy something sweet, and I've enjoyed it. Also having tons of veggies ~ I'm having the recommended 5 portions of friut & veg for everyone in the house lol
I walk my daughter to school and back twice a day, so thats 30-40 mins of walking, plus and home every night I have been walking 30 minutes on an air walker. So, like I say, not a particular plan, just living a bit more healthy :j
I have been reading this thread for a few weeks, infact, it is you lot on this thread who have motivated me so thanks for that! :T Heres hoping for lots of sucess for all of us
Kindest Regards,
Scarlett0 -
Hiya LMC
Thanks for your recommendation, however I don't really think it would be ok for me. I'm alright to pay for 1/2 price offers, but when it comes to forking out every single week, I just can't afford it, I found out you still have to pay the weekly fee, even if you do not attendA bit odd me thinks lol I don't know if this is the case with them all though. Some doctors can refer you to a diet club for free apparently, but not in my area.
Kindest Regards,

Hi there VelvetGlove - thank you for your lovely, lovely reply. I'm such a dork for not replying sooner, sorry!
Well, I had a "fall over" moment a few days after my interview...I got the job! So that's four months of unemployed misery coming to an end (though it has been very useful to get my head together...I would probably have been off sick had I been in work). I haven't got a start date yet as they're chasing refs etc, but I don't anticipate any problems. Hopefully it'll be middle of next week, or possibly the Monday of the following week.
Regards Slimming World - I have an old book from way back when (I decluttered before I moved from England to N.Ireland but thankfully the SW book didn't get binned). I had a look at the website and it does look v.useful - and I notice that there are some passwords here, so that is even more useful as I can get a bit more recent information. Unfortunately over here in NI Slimming World does not exist - though with a combination of magazine, website and this thread I think I will be OK.
Another thing is that I chucked my scales out when I moved back to NI. They had been in a box on top of my wardrobe in England for about eight years - I put them away purposefully as when I lost stones and stones of weight previously I got obsessed with weighing myself, usually 3-4 times a day. I then started all that stupid laxative nonsense and making myself sick as I got so fed up with dieting and wanted to eat what I wanted. Really I think I was going down the anorexia/bulmia route but had the presence of mind to spot the signs and think about something else other than food. I basically stopped thinking about it but of course it is an issue as I obviously have a tendancy to gain weight. I'm older now and don't have such lofty expectations of myself, so don't think I'd be so silly again, but to be honest I am not too interested in weighing myself. I noticed that Bridie is gaining a slim figure however she's frustrated that the scales are telling her something different to what she expects (they are telling you that you are FITTER Bridie!!). So I want to be like Bridie as I would just love to get into those little size 14 skirts again and never mind what the scales have to say, I'll let my clothes do the talking!!
Since my interview I've upped my fruit/veg intake and downed my chocolate, cake and bread intake (nil bread or cake now, I gorge like a piggy on it) and have been loosely following the SW principles by way of easing myself into it. I'll get a bit more together this weekend as I'll be doing the grocery challenge and planning my week's spending, and these seem to go hand in hand.
Ooooh I have been wittering on for a quite a while now...good luck everyone, keep at it you are all an inspiration. Thanks to Savvy_Sue and VelvetGlove for your kind and encouraging words ((hugs)).
Snowy Owl.VelvetGlove wrote:SnowyOwl What a cool nick! Perhaps with the hiding your head in the sand Ostrich may have been more apt but that's coming from someone who has been an ostrich about her weight for most of her life and decided last April with 'I wanna Lose Weight - thread 1' that it was time I got my act together and started to sort my problem outThat decision is the hardest and once you have your 'dieting head' on then it is the first step. More than welcome to join in with us all on here, we are here to cajole, laugh, cry together and just be there for when someone needs a bit more help - but also for the lighter side of dieting (no pun intended!) when people can share their successes of getting into the size smaller clothes and even just saying how they managed to resist temptation etc.
Oh I *know* I have been there! Every Christmas and night out or special event like a wedding I always go to my wardrobe with such hopes and come out feeling quite beaten up when I only have 'old faithful' jacket which I team up with some black stretchy trousers. It has certainly been worth it's money but I can't wait to have some choice about what to wear!
I follow Slimming World from the books I had from a club in the early '90s and occasionally someone will send me through the internet password so I can look sins up on their website (as that bit is behind the password protected area). I pay money into a savings account instead of spending it out on a club and am building up a nice little nest egg for new clothes for when I am where I want to be weight wise. The support people get from going to a club , I get from the people on here, sharing highs and lows and generally being there for each other. I can't say how the online SW is though I'm afraid as I haven't tried it officially, but I will say that there is loads of information and help in the password protected area that is on top of all the recipes and help you can get just from visiting the site. Oh I do buy the magazine though to give me current ideas and help with the motivationIn the magazine this is what it says about the online Slimming World:

Hello all!
Hope you've all been doing better than me. Only lost 1/2 a pound last week - this is a very slow process, probably because my lapses are a little too frequent!
In particular, Snowy Owl, congratulations on the new job, that's fabulous!
On the subject, I was talking to a new girl at work the other day, because she always has a bowl of fruit on her desk which I think is great. She admitted that at her old job she used to snack on chocolate and crisps and wasn't too happy about all the weight going on, but it was a habit that she couldn't break. So she decided when she started with our company, she'd be known as "the girl with the fruit" and no-one would expect her to be eating chocolate. New environment / new habits? And it's worked - she's been losing weight! So I'm going to try it too (the fruit not the new job).
The other tip I heard the other day and am trying is that to allow yourself treats, but only after you've eaten your "good stuff" for the day - i.e. 7-8 portions of fruit and veg. And to be honest, I'm finding that by the time I've eaten that much, the thought of a chocolate bar isn't that enticing...
But as usual my main problem is portion size not content! I am persevering! Considering giving my big plates to the charity shop. What do you think?0 -
thank you chaps and chapesses for saying nice things: I just wish I could get my encouraging noises into my own head! Not only have I NOT lost the few pounds I need to be down to overweight, but 2lb crept back on while I wasn't looking after a period of stability which was keeping me going. And that was after a walk in the sunshine on Sunday and a few days of if not 10,000 steps at least more than just driving myself to and from work! AND I shared my Mother's Day choccies instead of pigging them all myself (and there was only one box of them too). And the figs :rotfl:- see below!
OK, one of those evil lbs had disappeared again by this morning, but I am feeling fed up and tired. Which I know is part of the problem: I have an ongoing medical problem for which I'm waiting for surgery, but sometimes by the time I leave work I am barely able to speak coherently, and I weave my way down from the bus stop so that by the time I get home I do not feel like going out for a walk again, it is all I can do to get the boys organised to wash up while I cook tea for them.
Mind you, I've always got time for MSE - maybe that is the problem ...
Anyway, moan over, and welcome to Scarlet, don't let my rant put you off, I am usually a lot more positive than that. Swimming: you could see if there are any women only sessions in your local pool if that would make you feel better. Eat less, move more, that's my motto, if only I could keep the movement up.
And congratulations to Snowy Owl, hope the new job is all you want.littleangel wrote:On the subject, I was talking to a new girl at work the other day, because she always has a bowl of fruit on her desk which I think is great. I know I got some bad habits from my mum. She could never be left out of any food, even if it was something she didn't particularly like, she had to have some of it. So I have to stop sharing my DH's peanuts when he's watching TV, or raiding the biscuit tin just because if I don't another packet of choccy biccies will be all gone before I've had any. But I have been doing these things less and less, and at the moment it's not making any difference.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi Linda, thanks for the password again
I LOVE custard too! Mmm I'm also one of those weird people at primary school when they used to actually cook proper food (and not the junk they shove out to kids now) that used to say to the custard dishing up lady 'Skin please' with a big smile - was always that way since my mum told me that the skin was just made up of the cream of the milk
Another 1/2 pound gone is good news, you really need to go grab something from the kitchen cupboards that weighs half a pound and feel just how heavy it is. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of weight but wait until you feel it.
PP_Ayla - Congrats on the weight loss so far, that's quite an eachievement in itself! Enjoy your holiday in Greece, the sexy beachwear will come one day and then you can wander casually up and down the beach, parading along just where the water laps onto the beach, for all to see someone who is happy with who they are! I really agree with you about the media but have to say I haven't noticed it all that much recently, not sure if this is my mind just ignoring it nowadays or if it isn't something that is being touted quite so in-our-faces.
lazylins, I'm so sorry to hear about your bunnyWere the takeaways because you couldn't be bothered to cook something or that you just really fancied some comfort? I can understand either answer really, just curious to see if you had thought about it or if it was a reflex reaction to goto food for comfort. I tend to goto food for comfort without even thinking about it, I had a really crappy day at work on Thursday and to cut the story short, I was feeling very paranoid about loads of stuff that had happened earlier in the week and then I videoed a practice training session (with just another trainer in the room to give me some feedback) and I was awful. It was the last straw and on the way home I just swerved into the car park of the chip shop and had double savaloy and chips for tea! The thing is when I was eating it I wasn't enjoying it, it didn't make me feel any happier, I didn't get the comforting feeling that I was expecting from it. Food has always made things better in the past and this time it didn't... not sure if this has made me happy or not though!
elona, weight gain is always a bummer, but if it has spurred you on to really get into the diet then maybe you can view it as a positive thing. It made you realise that you maybe need to follow your eating plan a bit more closely and that will have a great effect next week on the scales!
Welcome to the thread Starry_Eyed_1974, or can I call you Scarlet? You are more than welcome to join our little group on here. It won't cost you a penny to talk to us and you won't have to wait a week until the next class to chat about any burning issues you may have! In two and a half weeks you have lost just over half a stone - way to go!! Sounds like you have the right idea with the exercising and cutting the (gorgeous) stodgy things out. Increasing the amount of fruit and veg that you eat will make you feel a lot more healthy and I found that I was getting less of the coughs and colds that were going around the office, so health benefits there too! It's good to know that when we are chatting about stuff on here that is is having a positive effect on people who may be reading it as well, you have stepped into the 'active players' now so others can watch and learn from you too! Perhaps some others will de-lurk and join in when they feel they want to. Good luck for this week and we are only a few button clicks away.
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0
