Jaffa, I am really impressed with the GI diet I lost a stone in a couple of months last year, but that wasn't really pushing myself, ie not really much exercise. The great thing is you feel better, and I wasn't really hungry. I added a bowl of salad to every meal, or an extra bowl of veg. and mostly couldn't eat it all. The porridge for breakfast really did stop me raiding the trolly that comes round our office mid-morning. Which book have you ordered? There are more recipes in the Living the GI diet book, but I borrowed it from the library and photocopied the ones I fancied. The information is much the same in both books. Didn't know it came with the Times!
Lost 2lb this week, and if I can keep that up without killing myself I'll be happy. I am a true fatty though at 14st 7lb! I can admit it here, 'cos none of you know me! Never tell anyone else in the whole world though! As for the lady who had her weight put up on the wall in the office aaaaagggghhhh!
Keep it up everyone, Jaffa, if you want any advise on the GI diet I'll try to help.0 -

Thanks bj.
I've sent for the freebie booklet from the Times/Tesco so I'm not expecting too much from it.
I will look for the one you suggest.
In the meantime I have been doing what I think from the info I have read up to now.
I've been having porridge or all bran for breakfast. An apple or pear mid morning.
Lunch has been tuna & sweetcorn or chicken or baked beans. Late afternoon I've had a banana.
Evening meal I've been having a stir fry with chicken and peppers and a little rice, or fish & veggies, or a ready meal with a low GI index.
How does this sound for starters???
Haven't been weighed yet - but I'll keep you posted
Thanks for the offer of help - I'm sure I'll have some questions when I get the book or when I'm looking for a change of meals ::) ::)0 -
Well done Jaffa! Tell me more about how you applied for the free book? I looked on the Tesco website but it seemed to suggest I pay to register with e-diets? Keep it up! I weighed myself at a gym last night, much prefer my scales! But thought if I use their scales once a week, I will get a truer picture.0

I lost 4 stone last year with South Beach,
which is very much GI based. (I didn't exercise either)
It really is true, its not a diet, more a whole way of eating.
I still want to lose another 22 pounds so after a Christmas break I am back on it now. Lost 2 lbs last week.
Its pretty easy to adjust your regular recipes too.
Good Luck0 -
Savvy_Sue - you're welcome
As for your questions about are you expected to be an Ainsley Harroiott in the kitchen or can you still have fast recipes - the answer is you can have whatever the heck you like as long as your portion is 'controlled'.
Let me give you an example of what I mean by controlled:
You are on a red day and the family will be eating lamb chops with veg and gravy - You can have the lamb chops (cooked with no added fat, like grilling & also the visible fat trimmed off your chops), all the veggies you can fit on your plate but just weigh your potatoes. The spuds you have on your plate with either become a B box choice or come from your daily allowance of sins. Same for the gravy, you either don't have any, have what the family have (& count those sins) or have a gravy from something 'free' like a bovril drink - adjusted for quantity
The web site has access to some very handy recipes and to be totally honest with you, if you didn't say they were 'diet recipes' the family probably wouldn't even notice! Of course they also have what I call 'farty food' which takes a while to do, but this eating plan is all lot about fitting into your lifestyle so they have what I call 'real life' recipes as wellI was managing to follow it on a one ring plug in cooker in the hotel rooms before I changed jobs!
Hope that helps.Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
Everyone seems to be doing so well. Congratulations ;D
Keep up the good work everyone. Its my weigh in at work tomorrow. I havent cheated once so if I dont lose any weight I will be so cross >:(
And ashamed when it goes up on the wall :-[
I'll let you know how I do tomorrow.Life is not about how many breaths you take.... Its about how many moments take your breath away

BTW, Woman's Hour on Tuesday (that's yesterday now) started with Barbara Windsor describing a workout you could do in bed! Sounds like my kind of workout!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Just been reading this thread trying to find out about GI diets - how does this work?
Anyway got on to https://www.ediets.co.uk and thought it looked quite good. I know you have to pay (makes the gym look like a bargain) they do give you support from what I can work out. Has anyone signed up?0
