Does number 2 mean that I did the wrong thing stopping drinking beer and starting to drink wine instead? I thought I was saving myself lots of calories...
Sounds like it. Probably depends how full you fill your wine glass, and how much beer you drink, but I think there's more calories in a glass of wine than in a half of beer.

Found this on a web site :-

"The number of calories in red wine and white wine does differ slightly, but is still well below the calorie content of regular beer.

According to the Calorie Control Council, a four-ounce glass of red wine has 85 calories while the same size glass of white wine has 80 calories. Both are quite a bit less than the 146 calories one would find in a 12-oz beer".

Must admit, I always thought beer was far more calorific than wine but, like you say, it depends on your wine measures.  If they're anything like mine, you're probably better off drinking beer. ::) ;)

Velvet Glove - WELL DONE on joining the gym :)

I have been going to the gym for almost 2 years now and I do enjoy it. Sometimes it's a real struggle to actually go - especially on cold dark nights. But once I'm there it's worth it.

Got weighed this morning - stayed the same. Quite chuffed really as I've already had a few xmas nights out ::)

I have remained the same .... but still very happy as i have had a fantastic time ;D  Got a number of "ohhh, don't you look good" and "wow, you look so slim" lol lol I don't think so, but hey, if they do ... who am I to argue lol lol  ;D

Makes it all worthwhile doesn't it Ally. ;D Even though, we're primarily doing it for ourselves, it doesn't half make you feel good when the compliments come flooding in AND of course it acts as such a good incentive to keep going. ;D

Well I am not happy because despite having the D&V bug on Saturday and suffering with a huge headache all weekend and not eating as a result that wretched 3lb I was so excited about has gone back on again. OK so I didn't get much exercise but I spent half the weekend in bed because I was feeling ILL, for goodness sake. How am I supposed to go for a brisk walk when my head won't behave.

Off to a corner to sulk. >:( :(

Help! I lost two stone by last christmas then put on five pounds over the holiday season and spent the last year tring to get my weight back down and finally got back to two and a half stone off.

But I got complacent and bored and peckish - have now put on seven pounds and panicking.

I have decided to pretend I am starting at the beginning again and try to focus on what I want.

Has anyone tried a product from health food shops called hoodia cactus as it is supposed to stop you feeling hungry?

Some clues to where we might be going wrong ...
It's from one of those emails that goes the rounds. American, of course, for which I apologise, but there is a money-saving tip in there!

And may I humbly suggest that when you've finished laughing (or maybe crying - has someone been watching me?) you read Some tips for buffet meals: picked up the hard way - they're just over half-way down the page!1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

    2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

    3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

    4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

    5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

    6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

    7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

    8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

    9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

    10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "YAH HOO what a ride!

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

Or, he who dies beautiful and slim is still dead and missed out on the fun of being alive!
