Now I dont mind the gym and I know this is one of the places to start, by I am hopeless when it comes to nutrition, and to top it off I cant cook for toffee.
Anyway, I think my top suggestion would be to learn to cook, because I am sure you will learn a little about nutrition along the way. And if you have no friends or family to teach you, can you find an evening class? They sometimes do cookery for men if you would feel intimidated by a gaggle of gossiping women.
And in the meantime, there are few things more nutritious and filling than a jacket potato, and if you need instructions for cooking that please ask! Microwave is quick, but oven is tastier. Fillings: low fat cottage cheese and sweetcorn, baked beans, tuna (in water or brine not oil) and low fat mayo, those are the ones that spring to my mind first but almost anything really except drowning it with butter!
Mmm, hungry. Better go to bed quick!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for the feed back, I know I am going to enjoy being prt of this community and know with all the help and advice, I will soon be on the downward path
Mimi, thanks, I think for the coming weeks that the quick ready meals are best, it atleast means I can take them to work with me
Ally, Again thanks for the advice, I think my fav foods are what is causing me the problem, I am more of a and I dont mean to swear here, pie and chips, kebab, or McDonalds guy, I know these have to stop, and they have. Apart from the I am a big meat eater, so one good thing is I will get me share or protein.
Sue, I like the idea of the cooking class, but have not been able to find a local one. But I think I will go for the Jackets spuds now and again, I have always enjoyed them, but mainly with curry (guess that goes now as well), but I suppose beans or Tuna could be good.
Thanks again all.

Hello and welcome Welsh ;D
Since my heaviest (in Feb/Mar this year), I have lost ummmm (it'll take me a while ... I hate maths) nearly 5st (i say nearly, cos I put on a couple of lbs during my 'it's my birthday and i'm not paying attention to what i am doing days' ;D)
OMG Ally ... didn't realise you'd lost THAT much. ;D Now that really IS exercising willpower! You're an inspiration. ;DWins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Hi Welsh
I'm new too but they're a friendly bunch in here. ;D
I think 5lb was a bit optimistic, but trying to push myself to stick to diet etc etc etc.
Got to loose it somehow :-/0 -
OMG Ally ... didn't realise you'd lost THAT much. ;D Now that really IS exercising willpower! You're an inspiration. ;D
I now ... still shocks me whenever I calculate how much I have lostThe thing is, as people have said to me before many times, I seem to be able to hold (or was it 'hide', then again it could have been 'carry') my weight well :-/ not sure what they mean by that ???
I was 8st from age 14-20, then got pregnant with first baby and put on a stone every year until her 6th birthdaythen had baby number two and put on some more ::). Then at the begining of the year, I thought to myself "there's no way I am gonna put anymore weight on" and BINGO!! I'd say that 99% of the struggle is mind/will power which will enable you to perfect that huge 1% of eat the right foods and keeping active ;D
In terms of keeping fit, I prefer to do 'active' housework .... ok, I don't really, but it's cheaper than going to the gym, your house is always clean and tidy and you get to burn calories too - just blast the music system and get going. What really works for me personally, is simply walking .... that's all I need to do to lose weight, now that I have my food intake under control. But the BEST in terms of sheer fun is dancing ..... Ok, granted your family (like mine) will eventually run and hide (cos they are fed up of being told asked to join in) everytime you start and think you are completely nuts .... but it is soooo much fun ;DI can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -

I've peed that much, seriously ... I have - I drinl A LOT of water ;D It is do'able, but that doesn't mean it will stay off. The healthier your weight loss the more likely it will be maintained ..... therefore less yo-yoing. Aim for 2lbs a week and you will surprise yourself.
ps. don't forget ... weigh in the 5th (Sunday) just post how much you have lost in the week ..... group target is 7lbs ;DI can say whatever I like here ... For example, the one always quoted is grilling rather than frying food. Then there's removing the skin from chicken and the fat from bacon.
If you cook your own curry then think of how you can reduce the fat in it by substituting ingredients - sorry I can't help here because I never touch the stuff, but I'm sure others can! If you buy a curry sauce compare brands for fat and calorie content. Be aware that lower fat isn't necessarily lower calorie. If you only go for takeaways then hopefully someone who likes the stuff can help a bit.
And if you are an "apple pie and custard" or "treacle sponge" kind of pudding chap, cut down your portion size and / or keep them for special occasions. Fruit and / or yoghourt is tasty too! Again, check the nutrition box, but once you get the hang of which you like you don't need to do it every week.
all the best!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

AND that means I only have 4 lb to go before I'm not obese any more, which I aim to reach before Christmas, and I know a lot of you will think that's a really slack target and I could do better but I'd rather do it sneakily like that so my body doesn't notice and complain too much. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Plus work is really VERY stressy right now and lots of chocolate around to make life difficult for me, although the boss has got the message and now brings fruit to our Monday team meetings!
Seriously, if anyone has tips for how to resist chocolate when work is manic do let me know!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
