cruesfan wrote:I've just noticed this thread and thought I would post details of my own weight loss. I live in N Ireland and followed a programme called Weight Loss Motivation. This involved attending weekly one to one sessions (cost £10) to discuss what I had eaten the previous week and to ensure that I remained motivated. I lost 6 stone between Jan and August last year and have managed to keep it off.
The programme advises clients to cut down (not cut out) carbohydrates and increase protein. I was told that the body does not start burning fat during the day until it has its first intake of protein. A lot of people take cereal or toast for breakfast which means that their first protein intake may not be until lunchtime or even teatime. I replaced my cereal with some cooked ham and a boiled egg for breakfast. I also bought a tub of whey protein from Holland and Barrett and subsituted this on days when I hadn't time for the usual breakfast. Whey protein features regularly in Holland and Barrett sales, being reduced from £21.99 to £10.99.
It is also recommended that you drink at least 2 litres of water a day as this is another fat burner.
My wife has also been following this regime and has lost over 4 stone in the last 6 months.
I hope this information is helpful. Good luck to all of you who are trying to lose weight and remember if you have an off day, forget about it and get your focus back the next day!!
Wow! What an inspiration, thanks for bothering to join us, even though you must be sylph like by now! Did they give you information or recipes each week? Maybe you could post us a regular tip or challenge based on your experience? I'd love to see a before/after pic of you. I have about 5 stone to lose, so it's really nice to hear from someone who has won at this game. Thanks again.0 -
Had my weigh in this evening, I've lost 4lb too - so we are head to head! You sound like you've got things better planned than me, I'm going to sit down tomorrow and try to plan what to have over the next week - at the moment I feel like eating a horse, so I'm going to bed instead!
It has gone very quiet for weigh in day, maybe most people have just weighed themselves to start - so maybe next friday will be the happy day. Do report how you're getting on though - any easy meal ideas would be great, I tend to end up with the lettuce tomato and cucumber salad, and I'm a bit fed up with porridge to be honest.0 -
well done Bj and thriftlady and anyone else taking part in the challenge. Are you doing Slimming world or weight watchers or anything bj? I was looking at your other posts but I can't see if you are following a plan, I have some goos meal ideas but if they are not allowed I don't want to tempt you!0

Actually, over the years I've done Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Micro Diet, Cambridge Diet, Cabbage soup diet, some Grapefruit and yoghurt diet, and lastly the GI Diet. The GI diet went quite well for me a couple of years ago, so I have gone back to that one, it is basically just sensible eating - no pre-packaged rubbish - the book has red green and amber listings and quite alot of suggestions.
So any just sensible recipe suggestions would be gratefully recieved! I've also been walking loads and swimming twice this week.
Someone told me that the South Beach diet is similar to GI, but I don't have any details on that.
I've actually cancelled my gym membership, after 8 years and no progress! Thought I'd go for it this time with the right attitude rather than think spending money will do it.
I also have a stepper standing in my bedroom that I bought in the sale last year at Tesco, waste of money also! If anyone is in the Carshalton Surrey area and wants a free stepper, come on down!0 -
hello - can I join you guys as I think the thought of chatting about weight will motivate me to stick to some kind of healthy eating.
I currently weigh 9st 12 3/4 lb. - at 23 point something of bmi, so not obese (yet!) but have gained about 12lb after having a baby 18 month ago. I have horrible rolls of fat around my mid-section that just will not shift.
Done ww - gold member, but cannot get motivated to count my points again. GI diet sounds interesting, as does south beach....is there any websites with any of the diet plans /info for free?
chat later.

Got a mega incentive now!
I found the wedding dress of my dreams yesterday. However the lady only had one left that was a little small, so I've got till April 16th to lose it. As a last resort, the dress has 3" seams so can be let out if necessary. The dress measures:
bust: 38"
waist: 28½"
hips: 41"
I measure:
bust: 38"
waist 30½"
hips: 40"
so it's the middle where I need to lose it!
My local swimming pool has been closed for renovations, but re-opened last week, so I'm going to try it out during the week.
Quick girly question: I get terrible munchies just before and during my period. I never feel full and seriously crave crisps, chocolate and biscuits. How do you cope with this? Here I go again on my own....0 -

Forgot to say, I'd lost 2 lb this morning, but probably mostly because I threw up on Friday so didn't eat ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

It's lovely that the dress can be let out: it means you don't have to beat yourself up if the stress of preparing for a wedding is all too much for you! But yes, it is a good incentive!Becles wrote:Quick girly question: I get terrible munchies just before and during my period. I never feel full and seriously crave crisps, chocolate and biscuits. Yep Sue, your right, low GI is good.
Tomorrow's Sunday Times has a plan and a free GI Diet book with it, should be good, they did one last year, and the book was as good as the one I paid £5 for. So anyone interested in GI, buy the Times on Sunday 8th Jan.0 -
