Hi chugalug, everyone is welcome.
At least being a student you should be in good company - not enough money to be lazy!
And just a couple of bits to add from December's Readers' Digest - sugar free drinks aren't good for you because they often have fructose in, and that's metabolised differently so you end up with more of the calories sat on your flabby bits than you would if you were drinking 'real' sugar. Their other tips included using smaller plates (as I've said 'ad nauseam'), but the one I found most helpful was to either not buy the food you shouldn't eat or hide it if that's not possible. I've got skinny teenage boys, for example, and even after eating their own weight in pasta they can still put away a few biscuits and a packet of crisps. But RD is right: I rarely go to the crisps cupboard because it's not anywhere near the 'normal' food', and if I go to the biscuit cupboard and see mince pies, I'll usually eat one of them as well as a biscuit. Whereas if the mince pies were somewhere else, or behind the biscuits, I'd probably stick to the biscuit.
Of course, really I should hide the biscuits with the crisps ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I can vouch for the fact that if I don't buy it I don't miss it, I keep my fruitbowl under the cupboard where the goodies (used to ) live and a juicy clementine or a banana tastes better and does you more good than a biscuit or six and/or ( but usually and I suspect )a packet of crisps. With the kids being home there are a few naughty thigs about the house, half a tin of celebrations for example, I have put them out of sight at least.
I have told my lovely children to take the remnants of christmas chocs, fancy biscuits and other "goodies" back to college with them at the weekend, they can feed it to the other poor students and I will be a dress size smaller for my holiday.
Hope everyone has a good week.

Sue, everyone deserves a little treat! That biscuit is OK, so long as it doesn't turn into the packet! Had a friend once who ate the last 2 chocolate biscuits, so her hubby didn't find out she bought another packet and ate them until there were only 2 left! Lovely girl, still big though.
It's the big weigh in tomorrow, so good luck everybody, and stay motivated - keep that fruit bowl full with lots of lovely treats, I bought fresh apricots this week (BOGOF in Tesco) - gorgeous!0 -
I've just noticed this thread and thought I would post details of my own weight loss. I live in N Ireland and followed a programme called Weight Loss Motivation. This involved attending weekly one to one sessions (cost £10) to discuss what I had eaten the previous week and to ensure that I remained motivated. I lost 6 stone between Jan and August last year and have managed to keep it off.
The programme advises clients to cut down (not cut out) carbohydrates and increase protein. I was told that the body does not start burning fat during the day until it has its first intake of protein. A lot of people take cereal or toast for breakfast which means that their first protein intake may not be until lunchtime or even teatime. I replaced my cereal with some cooked ham and a boiled egg for breakfast. I also bought a tub of whey protein from Holland and Barrett and subsituted this on days when I hadn't time for the usual breakfast. Whey protein features regularly in Holland and Barrett sales, being reduced from £21.99 to £10.99.
It is also recommended that you drink at least 2 litres of water a day as this is another fat burner.
My wife has also been following this regime and has lost over 4 stone in the last 6 months.
I hope this information is helpful. Good luck to all of you who are trying to lose weight and remember if you have an off day, forget about it and get your focus back the next day!!0 -
Hi
Thanks for the welcome. I am going to weigh myself tomorrow, and start then. I am currently waiting up for OH, who should be home about 12.30am (he does shift work). I have already eaten 2 bags of crisps, and some spring rolls, and other rubbish.
I am going to read up on my SW books tomorrow morning (gotta wait for TNT man to bring stuff as i am working from home tomorrow). Bought some skimmed milk, and cereal, so will have that whilst i decide on what free food to have for lunch.
Good luck everyone!!!

Hi,
I cant believe im doing this, but i have wanted to join this thread for many months but have not had the willpower or the courage to do so.
I am 34 have 3 chilldren and have been suffering with depression for the last 7 years mainly due to low or no self esteem.
My weight has gone from 9 st to 13st 3lb making my life worse with every pound gained.
I could not bear to go to a club or gym so i would really love to join you all in the hope that i gain some help along the way when my willpower fails,as it often does.
I have been a yo yo dieter for many years but not this year. i want to be able to go swimming with my chilldren in public this year, i have not done this for many years.
So heres to 2006 and a slimmer me. I hope we can all help each other.

Hello Jayne,
I'm sure we'll all be able to help eachother along - good luck with the weight loss.

Morning everyone! Well here goes (gulp).
Before Christmas, 10st 13lb. Today, 11st 4lb. +5lb
BUT. I know exactly where I went wrong, and losing so much before Christmas I know I can get back on again. The Christmas goodies have either gone, or been packed away for later in the year.
I knew when I was eating choccies and mince pies, and just general food I shouldn't be eating that I would put weight on, I made a (semi) conscious decision to carry on stuffing my face. So I can only blame myself.I hardly did any walking either.
Breakfast today: branflakes, skimmed milk and grapefruit. Lunch: soup and Ryvita. Dinner: Spag bog. (I'm following WW No Count)
I aim to lose 2-3lb this week.
Hope everyone goes OK.New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
Hi everyone!
Lets all hope we motivate each other along and all become skinny binnys again (rachie can't remember the last time but is being optimistic!) - went to WW last night and wasn't overly frightened by the result, I weighed in at 12st and when I went in July last year (and hardly attended) I was 12st 10lb so good going there! My first goal weight is 11st so 1st to lose!! Wish me luck as I have also given up smoking, trying to sort out my debts, got 2 small kids who keep me insane and a bit of a rocky relationship at the mo... I am determined to sort everything out for myself tho so this first stone will be the beginning of things getting better
Good luck all and keep drinking the water!Official DFW Nerd 2100 -
Well on Sunday I weighed 14 stone 2lb
Spent this week trying to eat less and stop snacking, and also stopped drinking half a bottle of wine every evening
Weighed self this morning and ....!3 stone 11lb :j
Lost 5lb-I know most of this is water, but v.encouraging.
Also went for walk up Worcester Beacon (Malvern Hills)where it was snowing,so reckon I've walked off the sandwich I ate at 9pm yesterday(oops).
Wine now limited to Fri,Sat&Sun and will make big pots of low-cal veggie soups for evening munchies.
Good luck to everyone else this week. :grouphug:0
