Advice Please On A Possible Ebay Problem

Hello everyone here's my possible problem.
I ordered 2 separate pieces of software for the same seller 1 after the other. The reason i didnt go for a discounted 2nd P&P was because i wanted the feedback.
The 2 items were 99p each plus £1.90 for each P&P (if i'd have got the discounted 2nd P&P i would have only saved 40p).
The items arrived promtly but in the same first class envelope.
I appreciate sellers make some of their money from inflated P&P's and even though the amounts we're talking about are not large i think there is a principle here.
I emailed the seller on Monday just gone querying this but i've yet to have a response. Even though i was very polite in my mail i also believe in being to the point and said that if i didnt here from the seller by next Monday then i would have no alternative but to give negative feedback (not sure if i made a mistake by saying that).
Because i'd not heard from the seller i emailed Ebay asking for advice.
I got a mail back from Ebay saying i should have asked the seller questions beforehand and my reply to that was that if i'd paid 2 P&P's then i should expect the goods to arrive in 2 separate envelopes and that was common sense therefore there was no need to ask that question.
It would be nice to hear some advice from anyone who's had this experience before or anyone in the know.
A big thanks in advance.

Buying two items from one seller - even if they leave 2 feedbacks - will only show as one feedback on your main score. Only if people click on your feedback will they see your total positive feedback which would include 2 from that one seller.
This is to prevent people leaving say 50 feedbacks for a new account making it seem reputable and very good in order to defraud people.
And threatening people to leave a neg so soon... seems a little harsh! I certainly wouldn't leave you a positive after being threatened! Infact I'd leave you a very factual neg in return because technically he hasn't done anything wrong! And 2 days to respond? I have work mails that I don't manage to reply to in a week and some of those are marked urgent - imagine my intrest in a 40p complaint :)

  • I accept it would be nice if the seller had contacted you in response to your email, however, I really can't see your problem.

Why waste an extra envelope? (what about the environment?), you said you received them promptly ...

I think you should just leave positive feedback and move on. £1.90 is not 'excessive' in my book.

But that's all just my opinion.

This is the sort of insight into the mind of a buyer which is really invaluable to a seller trying to maintain perfect feedback.

I'd be really interested to know why you would have been perfectly happy receiving the same product, at the same cost, in the same timescale, as long as you knew that the seller had lost some of his profit to the Royal Mail by paying out more in postage than was required.

If I'm wrong please do explain, as a seller often of multiple items I'd really like to understand what benefit buyers think they are getting are getting from having items shipped separately (which is really a risk to the seller who can subsequently only prove delivery of one item in the case of a chargeback)

Thanks for your response and to be honest im still learning about Ebay so thats why i asked for the advice.
I admit maybe threating to leave negative feedback might have been wrong at this stage but in my defence i have read alot about people not getting any response or poor communications with sellers after you have recieved the items and also i did say in my email that i would wait until next Monday if i hadnt heard from the seller.
You say technically he hasnt done anything wrong but if i pay 2 P&P's then shouldnt i expect the goods in 2 separate envelopes as they are 2 separate auctions and charging me £3.80 for a 1 small envelope and a first class stamp isnt alot of money but as i said before i believe there is a principle here.
I glad not everyone answers emails as quickly as you :rotfl: but i expect a response from somebody even if its to tell me to !!!!!! off, try and sort out the problem or agree with me.
I think you and funkyfunkymonkey are right but i'll wait to to either hear back from Ebay or Monday and leave postive feedback but not buy from the seller again.

As i said i understand that sellers make a profit from P&P and i dont mind that but where do you draw the line?
I accepted buying the goods on the understanding that i paid for 2 P&Ps so shouldnt i recieve that service?
If you ordered at 2 different times from the same online retailer but they sent the goods all in 1 parcel and still charged you 2 P&P then would you leave it at that? I dont think you would!

  • Doesn't always cost less to send them together. Sometimes sending two items together puts the parcel into the next price band. Granted not as much as two separately. To me its logical sending them together anyway. Would you not have if you were the seller?

It was a small envelope with 2 CD's in it and a first class stamp so doesnt cost £3.90.
If i was the seller then me even talking about this would mean i'd have supplied the goods as paid for in 2 envelopes.
Again this is not about cost but about principle and getting what you paid for.

hehe no worries :) Happens to be a busy time at work for me but that's a different matter :)
In principle then yes you should have had 2 envelopes... but just as an possible scenario:

I sell 2 items to one buyer - see payment recieved, think nothing of it and post them in one envelope, saving a couple of pence (maybe the larger envelope cost more too?) and then happen to be busy at work and don't checkmy mail for 2 days. When I do what do I see? The buyer is threateing me over 40p!! 40 little pennies!!! Now if they hadn't been too quick to hassle me I would have probably refunded them the postage difference - I'm a nice person at heart (debatable if you ask the 20 engineers working for me...) and once the matter is pointed out I'd have sent a Paypal refund. But now you have gone and threatened me... well darned it (imagine southern drawl here) you just gone and got my back up on this here thing boy...

Personally I would be well annoyed as a seller if someone threatened me after 2 days! After all the items have arrived, we're talking pennies in postage difference and it was possibly your fault for not choosing the combined postage discount...

Not having a go :) Just trying to show what it might look like from the sellers view point (well if I was the seller at least...)
I'd send them an appology and hope for a positive feedback but wouldn't hold out much hope...

But as a buyer you don't get anything extra from having two parcels instead of one, so why do you want them, other than the knowledge that by doing so the seller is worse off?

Try to put yourself in the position of the seller - do you really think he's sitting there thinking "I could put these in one envelope, save resources and possibly postage costs, and perhaps save the buyer two trips to the sorting office instead of one - but no, I know this buyer wants me to give as much of his money to the post office and the packing supplier as possible, so I'll post them in separate parcels."

Again, I'm just trying to understand why a buyer would insist on something (to the point of threatening negative feedback) just so the seller was worse off. You didn't even ask for joint postage but deliberately bought separately.

And if I made two separate orders from a supplier and they sent them in the same box, I wouldn't complain if I accepted the P&P charge at the time of order - as long as they arrive well packed and on time I couldn't care less if they had a little company on the way!

Dont i get any feedback from a seller til i give feedback or do you think they are just holding out to see what i do?
If they've made a genuine mistake like i may have done by threatening negative feedback unless they responded then why wont they email me back saying that?
