You have to compare a all-in-one PC against an iMac to get a true comparison.timberflake wrote: »So by you're logic we can compare tablets with workstations? After all they're both comprised of standard components.
Of course you can't, a desktop & an all-in-one are two different types of machine, hence why they have they're own categories on websites such as PC World.
If you're going to compare an iMac it's only fair to compare it to other all-in-ones.
if theyve got the same main components, ie. processor, memory, harddrive, then they ARE comparable0 -

You've clearly misunderstood the point if you think comparing a tablet to a desktop is reasonable comparison.Of course you can't, a desktop & an all-in-one are two different types of machine, hence why they have they're own categories on websites such as PC World.
They're both desktop PCs.
PC World organise their products to help customers find what they need, I'd hardly consider them any kind of authority on classification systems. If you're going to compare an iMac it's only fair to compare it to other all-in-ones.
It's a desktop PC, fair game.0 -
timberflake wrote: »When I say grossly over priced, I only say it because it's getting a bit long in the tooth now. If they released a new iMac tomorrow, it would compete against virtually any all-in-one PC, and the build quality and design make it would that little bit of extra cash.
But they haven't and it is overpriced as you say. Build quality and design myths again???The myth of Apple products costing way more than their PC counterparts is just that, a myth. They only become a little bit pricy when they've been out for a while as they don't refresh their product line up as much as PC manufacturers.
EDIT: Just went to "configure your iMac" page, and as if to prove my point apple want £80 for a 4GB upgrade to its RAM!!!!If you look at the stock 21.5" iMac @ £999 which has been out for around 10 months and compare it with current all-in-one PC's you'll see that it still competes on price and spec.
EDIT: Did 2 minutes with PCWorld came up with this which beats it on price and spec:http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-touchsmart-520-1190ea-23-all-in-one-pc-12400340-pdt.html
and thats at PCWorld!timberflake wrote: »So by you're logic we can compare tablets with workstations? After all they're both comprised of standard components....
I think you'll find you can compare an all in one with a desktop as they do the same job, and are made of the same parts. I have compared them in the past and have found the all in ones very limited hence why I have a standard desktop.
Comparing a tablet to a workstation is clearly stupid and not what anewhope was suggesting.0 -
I think the imac is apples best priced pc, just because its got a bigish ips screen and they aint cheap. I use linux, mac and windows, Apple products are highly priced however people are willing to pay! there customer support is just as terrible as everybody elses.
Apples computer sales are down but consumer products are up by a bigger margin. So I don't think apple are focused on professional products, there could also be a problem if freeBSD changes to the new GP licence as most of Apples OS is based off this meaning they wont get all the kernal updates. however they could stick with the current freeBSD OS for another 5-10 years and make there 1st OS
Its just like the argument I cant switch to linux as I loose support. what support have you ever had off microsoft or apple. none point proven! To be fair apple are good at helping stupid people who cant be bothered to google for the answer.0 -

silly you of course they are not myths, all independant reliability research based on things such as warrenty claims, or helpline calls, which generally show that Apple are usualy 3rd or 4th most reliable, and therefore meaning are actually not the most reliable systems, are all lies! and the only really accurate results are the ones based on surveys filled in by the people who have to go on their own perception of reliability,

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Yeh whatever, I like Apple stuff, Ive never had issues with it, I'm gonna by an iMac when the lineup is refreshed as I find Apple stuff far simpler to use than Windows. I'm not dissing Windows, I think it has some great features, but having used Apple now for 6 years I'm used to it's OS and features and I like them...
It's my opinion, never get why Apple lovers/haters see reason to argue, each to their own...0 -

i think (to me at least) what bothers me most about the whole Applie/Windows/Linux thing is just the carp people sprout when trying to convince people their choice is better,
and that people should be able to accept that it should be down to what is most suiteable for the person and what they want, but not being ignorant to the downfalls of each as no option is without fault,Drop a brand challenge

Bingo. People should always buy the best tool for the job, whether that be a Windows PC or Mac.0 -
Anyone comparing iMac prices to PC towers please stop! Go ahead and compare them to other All In Ones, but you must understand that they ARE different to a tower with a monitor. They DON'T use all the same components. They use some. In the iMac, that would be a 3.5" hard drive, and a desktop processor. The RAM is laptop AFAIK. Where are the speakers for your towers? What about the fans and other cooling?
NOT the same product by a long way.0
