I have a NW Flexaccount but only with a cash card cos they would not give me a debit card. A while ago I transferred my DDs to this account and also have my salary paid into it, as I was just about to apply again for a Flexaccount with a debit card. I have a A+L current account which does not have any DDs. I've just been using it to put money into my A+L savings account.
I have made an appt for Tues morning to open a Flexaccount with a debit card, will I qualify for the £100 if I don't have any DDs or SOs to transfer?

their online facility is poor compared with numerous other Bdg Societies, especially regarding snail's-pace secure online messaging.

I don't know about Building Societies but Nationwide's online facility is certainly better than two of the large PLC banks (Lloyds TSB and HBOS).

Kilty - I too was disappointed by online messaging of Halifax (HBOS) - though I gave up trying over 2 years ago, so they may have improved? Lloyds messaging was prompt, polite and efficient for me in recent months.

I had an appt at the branch today and after being rejected on several occasions, they finally offered me the Flexaccount with a debit card, cheque book and overdraft, they even offered me a Gold Card credit card without asking for one. I asked about the £100 and the lad said you get it 5 days after the transfer of direct debits.
My problem is, all my direct debits are with my Flexaccount cash card and I don't have any with my A+L current account.
The lad did say that they cannot close your account that you are transferring from eg A+L
  • Hi,
    Little confused ab this.
Is it necessary to have had an Acc with Nationwide earlier for 6 months?

    Thanks for reply.

You need to have held any nationwide product for 6 months or more. This can be a current account, savings account, mortgage, etc.

I sent off my transfer form today, to avoid the inevitable rush when Martin recommends this on thursday (unless he sticks to his recommendation to other current accounts). For existing Nationwide customers, especially those with a Flexaccount that isn't being used as the main account, its a no-brainer.

I opened the flexaccount to use for overseas cash withdrawals, but the in-credit rate & linked savings accounts compares favourably with cahoot who I've been with for 2 1/2 years. Cahoot have removed the option of funding the accounts via direct debit, and have a habit of taking their systems down when I'm out late on a saturday, rendering the cash card useless. Ditch & Switch!

It also gives me a good excuse to close my other A&L Premier Direct current account which was set up for the Regular Saver and £50 referral bonus 12 months ago, and is now redundant. Yes I know the interest rate actually beats NW and cahoot, but I detest their online banking and will tell them when closing it's in protest at their poor ISA offerings for existing customers.

I'll stick with my LTSB Graduate account though for my salary, as they have the best free overdraft for grads and its easy transferring £1k/month to nationwide if necessary to get the £100.

I am interested in moving my main current account from A&L to nationwide. Initially I was planning to move it to Halifax but because of the negative comments I've read from here and being so slow I decided not to.

I've already got nationwide flexaccount and also hold an e-saving account with them. I've opened my account a year ago mainly for purposes of using abroad. It looks like that I will qualify for the £100 offer. My worries is how long does it take for all the transfer DD and SO become operational with nationwide?

The reason I'm asking is that we are going for a holiday in May in Southeast Asia for 4 weeks and don't want to experience any sort of problem when I'm away. Any experienced to those who have moved and how long?

    cheers

Looks like Halifax are going to lose out then as their switching process has been painful !

Not sure whether I have an account there anymore (hopfully I forgot to close the postal one) - me thinks that I might transfer my newly aquired Halifax account to Nationwide once my 2 months is up (in april I think) :D

First deposit has gone in, we've had a list of DD/SO and just waiting for switch to happen. We used a dormant current account, set up a standing order and then switched that to Halifax so if the switching process is a pain in the backside, it shouldn't affect us too much.

And halifax also claim 4 weeks:

Yet, 7 weeks later i still don't have my list of SO's/DD's!!!
However, I do know someone who transfered to Nationwide in this promo and they had the list of DD's within two weeks, so they look far better than halifax were. They're probably not as inundated due to the 'exisiting member' requirement..
