I am think currently on the lines of good quality independent Shops and Retailers such as
http://www.farmison.com/?campaign=brand_name&gclid=COO3lbqomqwCFUNO4Qoddl8GPg
and
http://www.natoora.co.uk/shop/
as alternatives to the Supermarket.
Also independent Delicatessens that deliver Nationwide.
http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/
or http://www.golspiemill.co.uk/products/products-list.html
just to throw out a few ideas.
Also http://www.riverford.co.uk/

http://www.itadka.com/?gclid=CLr26rXWy7ACFUdItAodHBmjMA London Area and my Postcode for a Fee but worth it IMHO!!
http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Free-Delivery-Offer.shtml
http://www.raanthai.co.uk/delivery/index.htm

Delivery pages posted for reassurance purposes people can always click over to the Front page and browse if liked.
I would love it if all of MSE just posted all their favourites or known about online stores so we could give the Supermarkets a well deserved kick up the !!!!!!

This List needs to cater for ALL Budgets and ALL Tastes from the Artisan Gourmet to your Shop next door in Newnham.

So I am wondering what MSE folks would use to avoid them?

I am expanding this to take account of the multiplicity of ways to shop online and get nationwide Delivery so it is easier to support small shops of whatever Budget or preferance you prefer.

  • I could for instance happily use Bachedre and Doves Farm and any other Nationwide Flour Mill to do regular deliveries of Flour for some OS MSE bread etc making.

  • My personal philosophy is secure the quality, don't care who does it, and get it as low a price as is possible.
My Mum gets her Groceries at 20% below price and is a quality diva to boot.

www.waiyeehong.com seems cheaper than Wing Yip and also gives lots of info on ingredients which is helpful.

www.foodaridirect.co.uk for people in South East has a lot of stuff straight from farms. Veg seems expensive for non-organic but the game is a good price, cheaper even than Lidl does at Christmas.

www.bleikerssmokehouse.co.uk Scottish smoked salmon without additives :)

    www.paxtonandwhitfield.co.uk cheesemonger

www.lynherdairies.co.uk Cornish Yarg cheese by post

    www.roddas.co.uk clotted cream by post

My mother tried local veg boxes and found she got loads of stuff she didn't eat and variable quality. I want to choose exactly what I want each week so if you can recommend companies that let you choose please post !
  • My feeling esp @Edwardia is us at MSE should curate a List of ALL online shops and then assess them for cost ie expensive to cheaper, with people making their own decisions. Perhaps inspiration for MSE?
It is so important to escape the Supermarkets. At least like what MSE Martin says make 'em work for our Trade.
I can't think of a better way to do it unless MSE has better ideas or ways to improve the above.

  • I can't imagine this isn't MSE's heart's desire, however you choose to interpret it your own personal life.

  • OK my feelings: this could be tackled, curated, as ALL Alternatives to the Supermarket from yer wee Corner Shop to Artisan Suppliers that deliver Nationwide.
I believe there is something in this.
Jobs, speciality jobs, Food Retail, better quality of food, more stable prices ie prices that don't fluctuate according to some complex algorithms employed by Company but needed price increases due to [justified] cost.
Privacy; hows about not being data mined via Loyalty card?
Wind up !!!! of Supermarkets who well deserve it, I even fear Waitrose is in on the act?
