  • You can say Richard, kipper or clutter.. Or anything else ypu like!

My animals are cards, I will give them all that. Cat sitters are welcome, but there are the dogs and the chickens and the geese and whatever else is passing through too ( no hedgehogs this year though, phew!)

You are just making it sound more appealing....*packs a suitcase..*

I normally say clutter but used the term Richard I think, for the dirt time today.

Clutter sounds like a mess, and whilst my house is a mess, it's more than just clutter if you get what I mean.

Richard is the guy from the ch4 documentary who is an extreme hoarder and can barely move in his house, who couldn't bear to get rid of ANYTHING

Ahhh yes, what a lovely chap. I still remember Mr Treebus from life of grime. He was my fave TV hoarder.

DD has old photos of B/W people she has bought at bootsales - she "rescues" them and keeps them cherished

suzitiger - choose whatever word suits you - carp is quite popular too - to me clutter is something in use/recent like unpacked shopping after a supermarket trip, my hoard is say my un-disposed-of-because-I-may-repurpose packaging or bargain toiletries while kipple is the layer of catfluff that descends on either of the above/pile of small objects that prevents anyone sitting on the sofa :rotfl:the important thing is to let it see daylight, not worry what you call it

I do this with photos too, and I turn them into giftcards for my quirkier friends (I know some people might find them a bit odd...:rotfl:)

Yes, I just didn't know if we used code a bit like having to say 'the scottish play' in the theatre about Macbeth. :p (memories of Blackadder come flooding back...)
I can now catagorise my stuff..small hoard, LOTS of kipple and a fair bit of clutter :o (usually the hoard or kipple that I am currently sorting haha)

  • I had a REALLY bad day yesterday
Looked at the vintage rail ... and there was my late Mum's coat
Oh how awful, WHAT a coincidence! I am so sorry that this dragged up sad memories for you. (((((((HUGS)))))))) I do hope it gets a new loving owner though. :o
How long are pillows meant to last? Mine never seem to last long, and then I feel disinclined to buy 'good' ones when this is the case, or would 'good ones' last longer?
I bought some really nice feather ones in the Jan sales a few years ago, they are still great and in good nick, so comfy. You can wash them or dry clean them I think. We get our duvet dry cleaned every summer and that works for us :-)

I have been lurking now for a few weeks and have never posted anything on any forum before so - hello everyone. I feel as if I know you all already. I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your posts which have helped me immensely. I would like to add to the discussion about pillows - I bought latex foam pillows about eight years ago, they do not harbour the dreaded dust mites, they are washable and never go flat. I take one with me when I visit my family. They are about £20 from Du***m M**l or Ar**s.:hello:

Yaaaay welcome, and post with us, it would be lovely to get to know you :)

Blossomhill, how distressing for you (((hugs))).

Hi all, been lurking for a while as not been doing much and had a bit of a carpy time at work.

Am on a batch cooking kick today - got a pot of chickpea curry in the slow cooker using a pack of dried chickpeas. Not sure why I buy dried pulses as I am rarely organised enough to soak the night before and I'm not confident in the quick soak method!

Also using up 1.5kg of mince from the freezer and the 2.4kg tin of tomatoes which has been lurking in my larder so that will free up some space (but got to find room in the freezer for the resulting chilli and cottage pie!)

In laws were supposed to be coming over for Sunday lunch today but have cancelled as MIL and BIL are poorly so we now have to eat a lamb shoulder and gammon joint between 2 of us - shame!

Got all our Christmas lights up - we have a living tree so won't bring it until Christmas Eve so at least we are feeling festive. Got all my pressies apart from OH and mum who are both awkward to buy for, OH's birthday is 23rd December so need to buy him a birthday pressie as well.

:p Gordon Bennett, got to more than a year ago that I posted about getting those marmalades, you've got some kind of amazing memory, lady!

I did Freecycle a bagful of Bonne Maman jars ages ago and people were mad for them, they went to a jam-maker in the end. It's the lovely moulded sides and the cute gingham tops I have problems with.............

Guess who ended up in the 99p shop buying some marmalade?

I think the people who make that jam are very clever. It's all about the jar, it's expensive and not that tasty compared to lots of jam but the jars have some weird pull on people as they seem to buy it just so they can store junk in it!
  • Ah but it's real jam - most others have ingredients like glucose-fructose syrup which is known in our house as "the evil syrup" and in my book, are not jam at all, just something dreamed up in a lab

Abd look what you coudl do with the jars ...http://www.bonnemaman.us/

Granny28 Big welcome and thanks for posting:T. Please do post again:D It's great to now we are helping others 'out there'.

I've been thinking about this for myself. I don't think I have massive hording problem, more hording tendencies with a few hording hotspots and a small touch of 'if the world ends this might Come In very handy (see OTT screw collection...)
As for much of the clutter, I just own too much stuff because I just passively kept everything that crossed my threashold and with the passing of considerable years the clutter mountain has therefore grown and it just takes physical and emotional energy to work through it and therefore time. Once I have tamed a particular area eg. clothes, larder, kitchen, old plastic containers, I have had no desire to restock.

I never realised it was ok to actively get rid, IYKWIM. I am now much more proactive about what I own.
And the more I have got rid of stuff, the more I love the simplicity less stuff brings and the more I am prepared to pare back.

I was lying in bed last night and got the sudden urge to purge the drawer next to me. It took 1 minute to get rid of 2 undertops surplus to requirements, and a jewellery travel pouch. They are now in the C.S. pile for tomorrow.
Since I pared back to owning less than 33 items of winter clothing, I have had more complimants on my wardrobe than the last decade put together.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
