Gingernutty re your shoe dilemma. My husband bought some Cla**kes shoes and after a year or so had a sharp bit of thread work loose that kept stabbing his toe inside. It was right at the end of the shoe so couldn't get scissors or anything else down it to nip it or pull it. He had the same dilemma they cost a lot ,he paid full price. So he took them back to the shop , he had no receipt so as a gesture of goodwill they gave hin a thirty pound voucher towards another pair.
Is it worth you returning them and if they wont give you anything then getting rid? At least then you know that you did everything possible before letting them go?

Blossom Hill horrible incident for you , hope the bad feelings have settled and you are feeling better.

Grey queen Let the jar go..these are probably my easiest decisions if you miss it too much you can get another but i am sure once its gone you wont miss it.

Lostinrates If you have no pillow protector than its recommended that your pillows are replaced every 6 months . My son used to be a bad asthmatic and i was advised that an unprotected pillow contained a horribe % worth of house dust mite droppings which are what can trigger the allergy.Dont know if that is still true.Regarding memory pillows we invested in a mattress and pillow due to DH bad back. The salesperson guarenteed we would hate it for the first week but to stick with it. He was right for the first two weeks we had the worst nights sleep ever now we love it.Everything has those zippy protectors

I kind of see the logic that the mites won't be in th pillow.....so where will they be? In the bed.....th duvet.......?

I let them go. I found the hole in the end.

It was on the bottom of the sole, hiding in the flower patterned tread.

When I tried the Doc Marten thing of applying a heated knife to seal it, the black plasticky, rubbery sole didn't react well.

I had to turn on the electric air freshener.....

Still. Flower patterned sole. How old am I, anyway?
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

My DS is now 17 but have just been on the asthma uk link that we used to use

    http://www.asthma.org.uk/about-asthma/asthma-triggers/house-dust-mites/

We certainly always did the wash bedding at 60, vacuuming, open windows when shaking bedding and damp dusting and he couldnt have soft toys. (thats why i struggle to ged rid of them :( still in the loft . )

Apologies.. i am rambling. and have completely wandered off the subject:mad:.. we were talking about pillows werent we??.

Six months seems....horrifically 'consumer' throw awaysocietyto me. Neither of us have dust allergies, and we have quilted pillow protectors.

If you buy more expensive pillows do they last correspondingly longer? Honestly I couldn't sort out buying pillows twice a year even if I wanted to, and I am horrified by the cost implication.

Of course! (thinks of the 7 on the shelf in the hallway destined for button sorting purposes:o) Hey, was that from the 3 fruit marmalade bought at the 99p shop?:D
:p Gordon Bennett, got to more than a year ago that I posted about getting those marmalades, you've got some kind of amazing memory, lady!

I did Freecycle a bagful of Bonne Maman jars ages ago and people were mad for them, they went to a jam-maker in the end. It's the lovely moulded sides and the cute gingham tops I have problems with.............

((Blossomhill)) ouch over your Mum's coat. I can get the shakes just thinking about that.

Been chilling out today but have a quick Q that maybe someone can help me with (I'm gonna get laughed at if I post it over on the techy board).:o

Yesterday, I was typing a post and miskeyed somewhere over in the bottom left hand side of the keyboard and the screen went wide, so that the MSE site overfills the monitor and I have to drag across on the bar to see the whole thing.

Dunno what I did and assumed it would re-set to the old way when I put the pooter on today and it hasn't. Anyone know how to undo this because it's really getting on my wick?

Shrinking the whole window doesn't work, btw; I still have an overfull screen just in a smaller window. Pleeze help!

ETA SORTED! I had a brainwave and went into the View menu of I.E. and then the Zoom heading and it was set at 125%. Now back at 100% and it's all good. How I did that with the keyboard I just don't know. Been hitting CTRL and various keys down there and funny things happened but not the one I wanted. I am SO happy I could bounce!

  • Thanks for all the sympathy you guys, needed it I am afraid

Threw out a Bon Maman yesterday, had rooted cuttings in it, then was able to think "there's always more in the shop if I need one"

I tried an Ikea foam neck pillow recently to see if it was worth investing in an expensive one - it sorted my neck out almost immediately for a £10, so no need to get a dear one - and I now sleep on my side after years on my front

JoJo you've reminded me I forgot to give DD an advent calender this year - whoops!

  • I have been lurking now for a few weeks and have never posted anything on any forum before so - hello everyone. I feel as if I know you all already. I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your posts which have helped me immensely. I would like to add to the discussion about pillows - I bought latex foam pillows about eight years ago, they do not harbour the dreaded dust mites, they are washable and never go flat. I take one with me when I visit my family. They are about £20 from Du***m M**l or Ar**s.:hello:
