Hoarding...not just on TV

I am so happy if some one is inspired to cheer them selves up with scent. Doesn't have to be dear stuff, just stuff you love.
Fwiw, one of the very annoying side effects that happened for me increasingly over the last year or so is I had started to lose my very strong sense of smell, it felt like I could only smell the unpleasant stuff any more. The new pills I started this Sumer have relieved some of the swelling in my brain and it must have been this impacting on my sense of smell (I thought I simply had a dust reaction to lack of cleaning as well as I am used to, or congested sinuses from being run down). The evening this summer I walked through the garden and smelled the straw newly stacked in the Dutch barn, the wet grass and the smell of wet earth, all suddenly at the same time made my heart sing, it's one of those things you don't notice is getting you down so much, and then the joy of being flooded with memory is intense.
Right, about to do some vacuuming but today I bought twelve rolls of insulation for the base layer in the attic.. It might not be dericharding, but it's dericharding my to do list and leasing to improvements in our lives and it's making me feel positive and hopeful.

Blossom hill, I dislike the smell of vanilla too, not as a smell, but as a perfume. I do not like to smell of food, nor too sweet. Some of the very 'green' scents also smell like a bathroom cleaner to me, albeit a nice one, so they for me, like you are off the list.
I am not so worried about very heavy scents either, unless I planned to suffocate someone into allure they do not work for me, clean florals with some depth work best on my skin.
Skin takes scent differently, and I cannot wear channel no five and smell great. My sister could not until she had children. I think that it's perhaps something reserved for women who have had children or have some wisdom, sophistication and maturity. I am neither wise, nor sophisticated nor a mother, so it might be some time before I can wear that wonderful scent. It smells amazing on my mother.0 -
Oh goodness, well done to all of you, especially those who've been feeling grotty & still managed to keep going! I have been slacking shamelessly...
BUT onwards & upwards today. The conservatory had gunged up again, for a very good reason; DD2 has finally tackled her bedroom! I think she had every item of clothing she has ever owned in there, and all her childhood toys, all her home-ed stuff from 9 upwards and all the school stuff from before then. Most of it was unspeakable, as at one stage she had mice in there; two complete carloads went to the tip. But she also had some craft things that entered the Pit of Doom a while back and never emerged until last weekend, when they came back down to roost in my nice tidy conservatory. But I was working, so there they stayed, and stayed; I was going to clear them up this weekend just gone, but fell over some of OH's stuff in the garden & hurt my back, so they stayed some more. But today I have finally managed to rehome most of it & am off to the Tip again with the last remnants. I'm also sorting out the understair area, which is about to become a food store - whoever destroyed the larder that used to be outside the back door should be shot! - which in our case (7 adults under one roof) isn't hoarding, it's just common sense. Got some more bits on Ebay, too.
I found it quite interesting that, although I'm delighted with DD2's change of heart & new improved bedroom, I actually felt quite panicky about the mess starting to build up again. I'm not a neat freak, at all, but a mad creative type & I honestly thought a bit of muddle didn't really matter as long as you could find everything easily & pay all your bills on time. But actually, I think it was getting to me rather more than I thought...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Hello lovely friends!
I have done my ebay!! I made £250 or thereabouts, and P&P was £26 so I have £200 winging its way to my bank account! :T That invoved de-richarding 3 pairs of boots, 2 unworn items of clothing and some baby trainers and a pair of converse.
I am on a bit of a roll now and on a mission to relieve house and head of excess clothes- next to be listed 4 Superdry items and a Boden raincoat. Should net me a few £££.
So we managed to spend lots at the Grand designs show but very good "investment" purchases. Earlier in the year we put our house on the market, then had a huge change of heart and decided to stay, but borrow £20,000 to make house perfect.
So in te next twelve weeks I should have two new Italian leather sofas, I bought a cow hide rug- I know some people object to them but I have ALWAYS wanted one and it was £200 BUT it was my first example of our attitude from this thread of buying the one you ACTUALLY want, not 22almost good enough but not quite versions. We also bought new pots and pans (beautiful ones with detachable handles) so all my old ones can be turfed. However I now have an urge to stick them in the loft for when one or all of the baby dragons depart home!!!
I have also finally dismantled (nearly) the clothes rails I borrowed for my clothes swap at the end of Sept:rotfl: but havent quite got them in the car and back to their rightful owner yet.................. There are also 3 bags hanging around for the charity shop so they will go tomorrow I think- I am LOVING the feeling of things flowing OUT and hope to harness it while its strong :THave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Idristhedragon....
I am pro using every bit of an animal. If the hide decorates your floor then it's a good use as far as I am concerned.
We personally do not eat road kill, (well, i admit i have a few times, if i have seen it hit in front of me) but have been known to stop for the skins. I know that appals many, but for me, its better than leaving it to rot, or better than killing it for one part of it.0 -
Well, I think it's nbodies business but yours what you buy. I love the modernist/scandi look and think hides look wonderful. But I personally don't buy leather or anything like that so I won't have one. If something is a by product of the meat industry then why not use it. Seems insane to not make use of all you can if the animal is going to be killed anyway. Someone gave us a leather sofa, I wouldn't have bought it but for it to go to the tip seemed crazy and a total waste. Our rabbit ate it in the end...0

Thanks guys. I was quite shocked at some peoples reaction to my hide (well, the black and white one on my floor, not MY hide lol. However I now have the "Bless your beautiful hide" song in my head)
I have never been veggie, have always worn leather etc etc!
Perfume.........now I ADORE perfume and feel positively naked without it! I wear Jean Paul Gaultier Classique and have tried others but always go back to that one. My husband travels quite extensively and can usually be persuaded to buy me some. He went through a phase of buying me random ones he liked - which to be fair- were usually ok but they smell different on each person so Ive trained him to get Jean Paul everytime
I just did the floor with my steam mop and am gutted to announce I now have wet feet. It was meant to leave it dry!!
Oh and speaking of the cow hide- anyone know if I can vacuum it?Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

I am glad you have your sense of smell back lir, DD had olfactory hallucinations as a side effect of one medication and I know it can be very distressing to loose or have tampered with something that many of us take for granted
A tip for anyone who keeps a hospital bag packed - don't take your favourite perfume, (associating it with being in hospital could put you off it for life) - take a sample of one you haven't worn instead
I can tell everyone has been busy as you've all been offline then all come back at once! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Oh god smells can be so evocative cant they!! There is a shower gel that I cant use due to using it to wash my poor old cat when he got really ill in his last few days and the smell of Boots own nappy sacks will literally reduce me to tears of rememberance of times gone by, ditto Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner of the same period.
Opium perfume reminds me of my mum going out when we were kids as she'd sweep out in a cloud of opium and high heels and the smell of "posh" lipstick will have me straight back to being a kid and playing in my Grans dressing table with my cousinsHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.
